2025 Team Preview: Belle Chasse High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Belle Chasse Fighting Cardinals enter the 2025 season with high expectations after a strong 2024 campaign that saw them fall just one game short of advancing to the third round of the playoffs. Building on last year’s success, the Cardinals aim to take the next step, bolstered by a deep pitching staff and a wealth of infield experience.

The 2025 Cardinals’ identity will be shaped by a talented pitching staff and a core group of returning infielders. With the majority of the pitching staff returning, Belle Chasse anticipates significant improvements on the mound. While the team graduated several key offensive contributors from last season, they are confident in the ability of returning players to step up and fill the void.

Key Players to Watch

-Junior RHP/SS Alex Richardson: A two-year starter and two-time All-District performer, Richardson has been a cornerstone for the Cardinals' infield since his freshman year. At 6’2”, 185 pounds, he brings size, athleticism, and experience to the shortstop position. Richardson also provides a potent bat in the lineup, hitting .304 last season with 25 hits. As the team’s leader, he will be counted on for both defensive consistency and increased offensive production in 2025. In addition to his prowess at shortstop, Richardson is one of the state’s most promising young pitchers. Last season, he was a key contributor in all of Belle Chasse’s big games, compiling a 5-5 record with a 2.30 ERA, 67 strikeouts, and 53 innings pitched. With a fastball touching the low 90s, Richardson’s dominance on the mound will be critical to the Cardinals’ success.

-Senior 3B/UTL Gavin Rubio: The versatile Rubio is coming off a breakout junior season in which he hit .340 with 10 doubles. The 5’7”, 160-pound senior will once again be a fixture in the lineup, starting at the top of the order. Known for his defensive flexibility, Rubio can play anywhere in the infield, but his leadership and offensive consistency will be the most valuable assets for Belle Chasse in 2025. Rubio’s contributions extend to the mound, where he is a reliable option both as a starter and in relief. Last season, he posted a 3-1 record with 38 strikeouts in 25 innings. Known for his competitive nature, Rubio has a knack for keeping the Cardinals in games when it matters most.

-Senior 2B/UTL Hudson Faucheaux: The 5’10”, 165-pound senior returns as the team’s starting second baseman and defensive anchor in the infield. A reliable presence at the plate, Faucheaux hit .299 last season with 26 hits. This year, he will be asked to elevate his offensive production while continuing to lead by example with his steady glove and strong work ethic.

-Junior RHP Danny King : At 5’10”, 160 pounds, King showed flashes of potential as a sophomore, finishing the 2024 season with a 3-1 record, 28 strikeouts, and 27 innings pitched. With a year of experience under his belt, King is expected to take a significant step forward and become a consistent presence in the starting rotation.

The Fighting Cardinals are poised to make a deeper playoff run in 2025. With a pitching staff anchored by Richardson, Rubio, and King, Belle Chasse has the arms to compete with the best in Class 4A. Offensively, the team will look to veterans like Richardson, Rubio, and Faucheaux to lead the way, while guys like Blaise Galmiche, Caleb Corcoran, and Ian Fletcher are expected to contribute as well.

Coach Evan Tageant will rely on his team’s blend of experience, talent, and leadership to navigate a challenging schedule. If the Cardinals can replace the offensive production of their graduated seniors and maintain their defensive consistency, they have the potential to be a dangerous postseason contender.

The 2025 season promises to be an exciting one for the Belle Chasse Fighting Cardinals, as they strive to build on last year’s foundation and take the next step toward a state championship.
