2025 Team Preview: Benton High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Benton Tigers are coming off an impressive 2024 season, finishing with a stellar 31-11 record and advancing to the Class 5A State Semifinals before falling to perennial powerhouse Barbe. A season marked by elite pitching and rock-solid defense showcased the team’s resilience and ability to compete at the highest level of high school baseball in Louisiana.

Expectations remain sky-high for the Tigers as they prepare for another deep postseason run. Under the steady leadership of Head Coach Dane Peavy, Benton is focused on staying grounded and taking the season one game at a time. With a core built around dominant pitching and a defense that sets the tone, the Tigers aim to elevate their offensive output in 2025. If they can achieve greater consistency at the plate to complement their strengths on the mound and in the field, the team has a legitimate chance to contend for a State Title.

One of the strengths of this year's Benton team is their pitching staff that is poised to be one of the best in Class 5A, with three senior aces leading the way.

-Senior RHP Thomas Allen is a former Future Gamer and Senior Future Gamer who enjoyed a jam-up junior campaign.  The Louisiana-Monroe recruit went 8-3 with a 1.35 ERA and tallied 81 K's across 72 1/3 IP in 2024.

-Senior LHP Kade Bryant was a 1st Team All-State selection last spring after posting a 9-1 record and 1.15 ERA with 92 K's across 78 2/3 IP.

-Senior RHP Tanner Webb is another former Senior Future Gamer who brings experience back to the Tigers staff this season.  The Northeast Texas CC recruit went 6-3 with a 1.65 ERA and 55 K's across 46 2/3 IP.

-Junior LHP Bryson Gates looks to build on a nice sophomore season for Benton this spring.  Gates logged 20 1/3 IP last season and sported a 1.31 ERA with 19 K's.

A hallmark of Benton’s success in recent years has been their defense unit, which will once again be a cornerstone in 2025. With experienced players across the diamond, the Tigers are set to limit mistakes and make the plays necessary to win tight games.

Revamping the offense has been a priority for the Tigers this offseason. While pitching and defense have carried the team, a more consistent and productive lineup could be the key to taking the next step. With top returning players like Seniors Kade Bryant (.364 AVG, .515 OBP) and Jackson Jones (.322 AVG, .396 OBP), the Tigers have proven bats at the top of the order. Sophomore Hayden Millen, who hit an eye-popping .423 before missing most of last season due to injury, could provide a huge boost if healthy for a full season.  Millen is a really talented athlete, as evidenced by his blazing 6.41 laser-timed 60 yard dash time at one of our events this past fall.

New addition Junior OF Cole Snell, the District 1-5A MVP from a season ago, brings an exciting dynamic to the lineup. Snell hit .413 last season with 20 stolen bases and 17 RBIs, and his speed and versatility will add another layer to Benton’s offensive attack.

With a dominant pitching staff, a quality defense, and a revamped offense led by a mix of veteran leadership and youthful talent, Benton has all the ingredients to be a legitimate title contender in 2025. If their bats can take the next step, the Tigers could very well find themselves back in Sulphur competing for the Non-Select Division I State Title.
