2025 Team Preview: Brusly High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Brusly Panthers enter the 2025 season with high expectations after a strong 2024 campaign that saw them finish 24-8 and fall just short in the second round of the playoffs. With seven of nine starters returning and most having over 40 varsity games under their belts, the Panthers are poised to make a deep postseason push this spring.

Team Strengths

-Experience: This veteran group knows how to compete at a high level, with valuable game experience providing the foundation for success.

-Defense: A well-rounded and fundamentally sound defense will anchor this team.

-Speed: With dynamic athletes like Aiden Washington leading the way, the Panthers have the ability to turn walks into doubles and consistently put pressure on opposing defenses.

Team Weaknesses

-Depth: While the starting group is strong, lack of depth could become a challenge, particularly in the later stages of the season or in high-leverage playoff situations.

Top Returning Players

-Junior INF/RHP Aubrey St. Angelo: A do-it-all talent, St. Angelo is expected to lead both on the mound and at the plate. His .404 batting average with 36 hits and 13 doubles last season complemented his 1.625 ERA over 56 innings pitched, making him a pivotal piece in Brusly’s success.

-Senior OF Aiden Washington: Washington is an electrifying player with a rare combination of speed and athleticism. His .404 batting average and 38 hits were impressive, but his 37 stolen bases were game-changing, making him one of the most feared base runners in Class 4A.

-Junior RHP/C Brayden Ray: A reliable arm who went 4-0 last season with a 2.20 ERA over 41.1 innings. Ray's presence on the mound and behind the plate provides the Panthers with crucial versatility.

-Senior INF/RHP Drew Daigle: The 2023 District 6-4A MVP returns after missing most of 2024 due to injury. Fully healthy, Daigle’s leadership and production are expected to play a key role in Brusly’s playoff aspirations.

Key Contributors to Watch

-Junior Coy Purpera: A promising young pitcher who is set to carve out a spot in the rotation and contribute offensively.

-Sophomore Aiden Harris: A steady presence on the mound and in the infield, Harris will be a key two-way contributor.

-Juniors Brody Bourgoyne & Sam Mellion: Both players will help solidify an athletic and reliable outfield, ensuring the Panthers maintain their defensive edge.

This year’s offseason emphasis on strength, team chemistry, and mental toughness reflects the Panthers’ commitment to taking the next step as a program. With a battle-tested core of players, Brusly is built to compete at a high level. The combination of experience, athleticism, and leadership will make them a formidable opponent in Class 4A.

While the team’s overall talent is undeniable, their limited experience in advancing deep into the playoffs may pose a challenge. Overcoming this hurdle will require the Panthers to stay grounded, focus on their training, and approach each game with their “one game, one inning, one pitch at a time” mindset.

Team Motto

"It’s about the B, not Me" perfectly encapsulates the unselfish and team-oriented approach the Panthers will take into the 2025 season.

If the Panthers can stay healthy, build on their strengths, and navigate the challenges of a long season, there’s no reason they can’t be one of the last teams standing in the Non-Select Division II playoffs this spring.
