January 13, 2025
The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State. Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches. If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook
Coming off an impressive 27-win season and a District 1-5A title, the Captain Shreve Gators aim to build on their 2024 success and once again compete at the top of one of the toughest districts in North Louisiana. With a strong front-end pitching rotation and experienced hitters at the top of the lineup, the Gators are poised for another deep run. However, overall depth and the need to develop younger players stepping into larger roles will be key factors in determining how far this team can go in 2025.
Team Strengths
-Front-Line Pitching: The Gators have a deep pool of talented arms, led by Andrew Sharp, Shelton Harville, and Denton Hester, all of whom were major contributors on the mound last season.
-Top of the Lineup Experience: Andrew Sharp, Carter Reynolds, and Denton Hester anchor the lineup and bring proven production, speed, and leadership to the field.
Team Weaknesses
-Overall Depth: Several positions will be filled by new or inexperienced players, and the development of these contributors will be crucial to the team’s success.
Top Returning Players
-Junior SS/RHP Andrew Sharp: The former Future Gamer was the 2024 District 1-5A Pitcher of the Year and was also a 2nd Team All-District Utility selection. Last spring, Sharp hit .362 with a .452 OBP, 7 XBH, 33 R, 20 RBI, 14 BB, and 25 SB. On the mound, he posted a 7-1 record with 2 saves and a 1.54 ERA.
-Senior C/UTL Carter Reynolds: Hit .321 with a .433 OBP, 5 XBH, 22 RBI, and 15 BB, while earning 1st Team All-District honors as a catcher.
-Junior INF/RHP Denton Hester: The uncommitted junior impressed at our State Games event last fall and looks primed for a big junior campaign, after being named a 2nd Team All-District 1st Baseman last season. Hester hit at a .309 clip last spring with a .488 OBP and 8 XBH, 23 R, 19 RBI, and 20 BB. He also went 3-1 on the mound with a 2.00 ERA and 16 K's across 21 IP.
-Junior UTL/RHP Jackson Gaskin: A 2nd Team All-District Outfielder last spring, Gaskin hit .286 with a .357 OBP and 6 XBH, 25 R, and 22 RBI.
-Senior OF/RHP Shelton Harville: The Louisiana Tech recruit went 4-1 with 1 save and a 2.54 ERA last season, while also hitting .247 with a .408 OBP.
-Junior RHP/1B Reed Turner: Went 1-1 with a 3.20 ERA and 16 K's across 20 IP last season for the Gators.
Other Key Contributors
-Senior OF/RHP Brodie Savage: Returning from injury; expected to play a larger role in the lineup and on the mound.
-Junior LHP Carson Adams: Will see significant increases in innings pitched.
-Senior UTL/RHP Landon Kay: Poised for an expanded role both at the plate and on the mound.
-Juniors Laken Guy (UTL/RHP), Brewer Mixon (INF), Brex Lopez (OF/RHP), and Bryce Call (OF/LHP): Young players who will round out the lineup and contribute throughout the season.
Captain Shreve’s 2025 roster is highlighted by a strong and talented pitching staff. Andrew Sharp, Shelton Harville, and Denton Hester will lead the way on the mound, with Reed Turner, Carson Adams, Landon Kay, and Brodie Savage providing depth and flexibility in relief roles. The staff’s development over the season will be a critical factor in determining the Gators’ postseason potential.
Offensively, the Gators will rely heavily on Sharp, Hester, Reynolds, and Harville to produce at the top of the lineup. With a blend of speed and power, the team will look to manufacture runs and apply pressure to opposing defenses. Key younger players, including Jackson Gaskin, Brewer Mixon, and Brex Lopez, will need to step up and provide consistent contributions as they grow into their roles.
The always competitive District 1-5A will again present a challenge, as many teams return experienced rosters in 2025. However, the Gators’ combination of strong pitching and a balanced lineup will prepare them for the postseason and position them as a contender come late April.
For Captain Shreve to make a deeper playoff run, the team’s young and inexperienced players must adapt quickly to the varsity level, and the pitching staff must continue to develop throughout the season. If the Gators can overcome their lack of depth and maintain their strengths, they will be a more than formidable opponent in both district play and the postseason.
