2025 Team Preview: Covenant Christian
January 3, 2025
The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State. Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches. If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook
Covenant Christian finished the 2024 season with an overall record of 28-6 and entered the LHSAA Select D-IV playoffs as the #2 seed. The Lions defeated the #18 seed Catholic Pointe-Coupee in the second round, before beating #7 seed Sacred Heart in the quarterfinals to advance to the LHSAA State Tournament. Covenant Christian matched up with #11 seed Glenbrook in the semifinals and lost a tough 3-2 ball game that was extremely well-pitched by both sides.
Head Coach Joe Teuton and company have reason for optimism in 2025, as they return five position players and five pitchers from last year's squad. The strength of this year's team is definitely the experience in their senior class and it all starts with Brennan Champagne and Carsen Hebert. Champagne is a Baton Rouge Community College recruit who went 7-1 on the mound last year, while also playing 1st base. Hebert had an impressive offensive year last season as a junior, as he finished with a .415 AVG and 48 H, which included 5 HR.
Fellow Senior Mason Canter will be the team's starting shortstop this spring and was a Class 5A Honorable Mention All-State selection in 2023 at Central Lafourche. The Nicholls State recruit has one of the smoothest left-handed swings in the state and is a reliable defender up the middle of the field.
Coach Teuton has also got to be excited about the return of the Trosclair twins, who both performed extremely well as sophomores last season. Junior Owen Trosclair went 6-2 on the mound, while also hitting at a .389 clip with 3 HR and 30 RBI. Junior Peyton Trosclair "one-upped" his twin brother, literally, as he finished with a .390 AVG and 33 RBI. Fellow Junior Mason Dudek will also be relied upon again this spring, after posting a 5-0 record on the mound in 2024.
In addition to the slew of upperclassmen, there's also a couple of young guys returning who will be counted on for even bigger roles this season. Sophomore Nathan Loupe hit .330 with a .466 OBP and 22 RBI as a freshman last spring, while Sophomore Evan Duplantis posted a stellar 4-1 record last season as a freshman.
The Lions have a really nice mix of veteran upperclassmen mixed in with talented underclassmen, which usually makes for a good recipe. The LHSAA Select D-IV playoffs will not be going to a three-game series in each round of the playoffs, as they'll still be competing in single games each round, which means that one good arm can knock off a really good team, and there's plenty of strong teams on the Select D-IV side including defending State Champion Opelousas Catholic, Ouachita Christian, Glenbrook, Central Catholic, and St. Frederick just to name a few. In saying that, it's hard to picture a world where Covenant Christian doesn't make the Final Four this spring. Will they make it past the semifinals for a chance to win a State Title? We shall wait and see, but we like their chances.
