December 20, 2024
The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State. Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches. If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook
The DeQuincy Tigers enter the 2025 season riding high on the momentum of a deep playoff run that ended just shy of a State Title game berth. Under the guidance of Head Coach Brady Carlson, the Tigers will look to build on last year’s success with a talented core of experienced players and a strong pitching staff leading the way.
The Tigers’ 2025 roster is headlined by a pair of All-District-caliber players, senior RHP/1B Carson Rainwater and junior RHP/INF Turner Rodriquez. The pitching staff, anchored by these two, provides DeQuincy with a solid foundation. Additionally, the experience of key returning position players gives the Tigers a reliable top half of the batting order, ensuring consistency at the plate in high-leverage moments.
Despite their strengths, DeQuincy faces two significant challenges heading into the season. First, they must replace their All-District shortstop, a four-year starter whose leadership and defensive prowess will be missed. Second, the Tigers’ depth in the hitting lineup remains a question mark. While the top of the order looks solid, the bottom half of the lineup will need to step up to sustain offensive production against tougher competition.
Key Players to Watch
-Senior RHP/1B Carson Rainwater (6'0", 175 lbs.): A true two-way standout, Rainwater was an All-State selection in 2024, posting a dominant 9-2 record on the mound. At the plate, he hit .375 with 20 RBIs and 36 runs scored, showcasing his ability to impact the game in multiple ways.
-Senior C Andrew Dowden (5'10", 205 lbs.): An All-District catcher, Dowden provides leadership behind the plate and a steady bat in the lineup. He hit .305 with 18 RBIs in 2024 and will be tasked with managing one of the best pitching staffs in Class 2A.
-Senior OF Nolan Schrader (5'8", 175 lbs.): A consistent presence in the outfield, Schrader earned All-District honors in 2024 after hitting .347 with 13 RBIs and 16 runs scored. His speed and contact hitting make him a key contributor in the lineup.
-Junior RHP/INF Turner Rodriquez (5'10", 165 lbs.): A versatile All-District utility player, Rodriquez hit .329 with 25 RBIs and 21 runs last season. His ability to play multiple positions and contribute on the mound (4-4 with 2 saves) makes him invaluable to the Tigers’ success.
The DeQuincy Tigers are poised for another strong season in Class 2A, thanks to their elite pitching and experienced core of returning players. If the bottom half of the batting order can improve and younger players can fill the void left by their departed shortstop, the Tigers have the potential to not only replicate but exceed their 2024 success. A state championship appearance is well within reach if the pieces fall into place.
