2025 Team Preview: Destrehan High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

Coming off a 2024 campaign that ended with a first-round playoff loss, the Destrehan Wildcats are a team on a mission in 2025. Head Coach Chris Mire, now entering his 12th season at the helm, believes this group has the motivation, depth, and pitching talent to turn the tide. With a roster brimming with experience and promising new talent, the Wildcats are poised to make noise in Class 5A.

"This is as deep as the program has been in my 11 years," said Coach Mire. "We’re excited about the competition we’ve seen this summer and fall, and while there are no guarantees, we expect to play harder, coach better, and perform better than we did a year ago."

Team Strengths

-Motivation: After a subpar finish in 2024, this team has attacked the offseason with purpose and intensity.

-Depth: The Wildcats boast their deepest roster in over a decade, creating fierce competition for starting roles.

-Pitching: Anchored by experienced arms, the pitching staff will set the tone for Destrehan’s success.

Key Returners

-Senior OF William Muller: Muller is an athletic and toolsy outfielder who has yet to secure a full-time starting role. This season presents an opportunity for him to turn his potential into production.

-Senior 1B/OF Bennett McNamara: McNamara started strong in 2024, hitting .350 before a broken finger ended his season early. With a solid approach and the ability to use the entire field, he’ll look to anchor the lineup.

-Senior SS Spencer Srubar: A two-year starter at second base, Srubar shifts to shortstop in 2025. After battling mono last year, he’ll aim to regain his all-district form and lead the infield.

-Senior 3B Jack Conravey: A strong defender at third base, Conravey has developed into a high-contact hitter who rarely strikes out. Improved strength could translate into more offensive production this season. Conravey transitioned from the bullpen to a starting role and has shown steady progress. With a fastball in the 83-85 mph range and effective secondary pitches, he’s poised for a breakout year.

-Junior C/INF Chase Mire: Mire’s versatility was invaluable last season as he filled in across the field. If he can return to his freshman-year hitting form, he’ll be a key contributor.
Pitchers:

-Senior RHP/INF Payton Stubbs: Stubbs enters his third varsity season as the staff ace. With a fastball in the upper 80s and a sharp breaking ball, consistency will be the key for his senior campaign.

Key Newcomers and Contributors

Destrehan’s depth will be bolstered by several emerging players:

-Sophomore INF/LHP Larry Rodrigue (Sophomore, INF/P) and Sophomore C/RHP Chase Marcotte: Both are primed for increased roles and could be key contributors in the lineup.

-Sophomore UTL/RHP Eli Landry: Had a strong summer and will push for playing time this season.

-Freshman INF Josh Muller: A talented prospect who is expected to make an immediate impact in multiple roles.

-John Rhodes, Jaden Sloan, Brady Carter, and Frank Harding III: This group provides depth and competition for innings on the mound.

The Wildcats’ pitching staff is the foundation of their program. Stubbs and Conravey will lead the rotation, while a host of underclassmen and returners will compete for significant innings. With depth as a clear strength, Coach Mire is confident this unit will keep Destrehan in every game.

While the lineup will have a new look after losing key production from last year, the Wildcats have the pieces to be a balanced offensive group. Expect contributions from veterans like McNamara, Conravey, Mire, Srubar, and Muller, alongside emerging talents like Rodrigue, Marcotte, and Josh Muller. A blend of speed and power gives this lineup the versatility to adapt to different game situations.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 Destrehan Wildcats are a team with a chip on their shoulder and plenty to prove. With experienced leadership, talented newcomers, and a deep roster, they have all the tools needed to compete at a high level. While Coach Mire refrains from making predictions, one thing is clear: the Wildcats are determined to make 2025 a season to remember.
