2025 Team Preview: East Ascension High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The East Ascension Spartans enter the 2025 season, looking to build on a promising foundation, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Alex Gremillion. The Spartans finished 2024 with a competitive 18-16 record but fell in the first round of the playoffs. With a deep and experienced core of position players returning, East Ascension is poised to compete in every game thanks to its offensive firepower. However, pitching inexperience looms as a potential challenge, making the development of young arms a key storyline to watch.

Team Strengths

-Position Player Depth: The Spartans return a strong group of hitters led by a mix of juniors and seniors, giving them a dangerous and balanced lineup capable of producing runs. Their offensive consistency should keep them competitive throughout the season.

Team Weaknesses

-Pitching Inexperience: While the team has talent on the mound, many of the pitchers lack varsity experience. The ability of this group to step up will be critical to the Spartans’ success.

Coach Gremillion expects the Spartans to be competitive in every game, emphasizing the importance of their experienced offense to produce runs. Defensively, the team has focused on pitching to contact and making plays behind their young arms. With motivated junior and senior classes, the Spartans aim to return to the playoffs and make a deeper run in 2025.

Key Returning Players

-Junior C/IF Hudson Browning: A standout at the plate with a .364 batting average, 13 doubles, and 3 home runs in 2024. The former Future Gamer will be relied upon to be a run-producer at the top of the Spartans lineup.

-Senior 1B/RHP Reed Truax: A middle-of-the-lineup presence with a .318 batting average last season. At 6’2” and over 200 pounds, Truax is a power bat who will also contribute on the mound.

-Senior CF/RHP Caden Gautreaux: The Spartans’ speedster hit .313 in 2024 and swiped 19 bases. A versatile player and leader, Gautreaux will be a catalyst in the lineup and a key defensive piece in center field.

-Senior 1B Alex Moran: Moran provides a powerful bat with a 6’3” frame and the ability to hit for power. Improving his consistency at the plate will be vital to his success.

-Senior INF/RHP Landen Mire: A potential spark plug at the top of the lineup, Mire brings a plus arm and strong summer performance into the season. His ability to get on base will set the tone for the Spartans.

-Junior INF Dawson Landry: A gritty, bulldog-type player who gained experience as a sophomore. Landry is expected to become a full-time contributor in 2025.

-Senior RHP Darrin Magee: The most experienced arm on the staff. Magee features a low-80s fastball and a strong curveball, giving him the potential to anchor the rotation.

-Junior RHP/OF Kamden Snowden: A two-way talent who will be one of the team’s top starters. With a low-80s fastball and tight curveball, Snowden also contributes in the outfield when not pitching.

-Junior RHP Ethan Blanchard: A 6’2” pitcher with a projectable frame, Blanchard logged innings as a sophomore and is expected to emerge as a reliable starter this season.

The Spartans’ success will hinge on their ability to maximize their offensive potential while developing consistency on the mound. With experienced hitters leading the charge, East Ascension should be competitive in an alwyas tough Class 5A landscape. If their young pitchers can step up, the Spartans have the pieces to not only return to the playoffs but also make some noise once they get there. Expect a scrappy, determined team that will be tough to beat in 2025.
