2025 Team Preview: Jennings High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Jennings Bulldogs, led by head coach Nick Duthu, enter the 2025 season with momentum and high expectations. After turning an eight-win campaign in 2023 into an 18-14 record last year, the Bulldogs are poised to build on that success and solidify themselves as contenders in District 3-3A. With a roster that blends senior leadership and junior talent, the Bulldogs will look to capitalize on their strengths in hitting and pitching while addressing key challenges in lineup depth and defensive consistency.

Jennings brings back an experienced core of players who excel both at the plate and on the mound. The Bulldogs’ offense is anchored by proven hitters who have shown the ability to produce in clutch situations, while the pitching staff is led by juniors and seniors with the skill to compete in big games.

The Bulldogs feature a potent lineup, headlined by senior Jude Monic, who hit .333 with 28 RBIs and a .930 OPS last season. Monic is a consistent middle-of-the-order presence, capable of stringing together hot streaks that can carry the team. Junior Jayden Benoit, the team’s top run producer with 34 RBIs in 2024, returns with his powerful and controlled swing. Senior Maddox Hebert, a versatile hitter with a .307 average and two home runs, brings confidence and clutch ability to the lineup.

Benoit serves as the team’s ace, boasting a 2.63 ERA over 63 2/3 innings last season. With command of multiple pitches and effective offspeed movement, he will lead a staff that also includes Hudson Dupuis (1.78 ERA, 15 2/3 IP) and John Mason Futch, who returns to the mound after arm issues limited his contributions in 2024.

The Bulldogs face the challenge of replacing a three-year starter at catcher, a critical position both offensively and defensively. The team will also rely on position battles in the outfield, at second base, and behind the plate to finalize its starting lineup.

Head coach Nick Duthu emphasizes the importance of avoiding self-inflicted mistakes, such as defensive miscues and missed scoring opportunities, as the team looks to maximize its potential and win games it knows it can handle.

Key Players to Watch

Jude Monic (Sr., 1B): A middle-of-the-lineup hitter with a knack for driving in runs, Monic is the offensive catalyst for the Bulldogs. His defensive prowess at first base makes him equally valuable in the field.

Jayden Benoit (Jr., 3B/RHP/C): The ace of the pitching staff and cleanup hitter, Benoit is the Bulldogs’ most versatile and impactful player. His ability to command games on the mound and deliver in clutch moments at the plate will set the tone for Jennings.

Maddox Hebert (Sr., DH/Utility): A confident hitter with power to all fields, Hebert gives Jennings another weapon in the heart of the lineup. His ability to step up in key moments energizes his teammates.

John Mason Futch (Sr., Utility/RHP): Futch is the ultimate utility player, capable of excelling at nearly any position. His return to the mound this season adds a valuable arm to the pitching staff, and his consistency as a leadoff hitter is vital for setting the table offensively.

Hudson Dupuis (Jr., SS/RHP): A steady presence in the middle infield and a reliable arm on the mound, Dupuis provides the Bulldogs with defensive stability and depth in the rotation.

The Jennings Bulldogs are focused on taking the next step in their rebuild under Coach Duthu. The 2025 season presents an opportunity for Jennings to prove itself as a district contender and push further into the playoffs. With a solid core of returning hitters, a strong pitching staff, and a mindset of continuous improvement, the Bulldogs are positioned to compete at a high level.

To achieve their goals, Jennings must solidify their defensive lineup, resolve their position battles, and minimize mistakes in critical moments. If they can do so, the Bulldogs could emerge as one of the surprise teams in Class 3A.

Coach Duthu’s message to his team is clear: “Build off last season’s successes, learn from the mistakes, and play with pride.” The Bulldogs are ready to take on the challenge and show that Jennings baseball is back on the rise.
