2025 Team Preview: Jesuit High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Jesuit Blue Jays enter the 2025 season with high expectations following a strong 2024 campaign that saw them reach the Select Division I State Quarterfinals. Head Coach Kenny Goodlett’s squad is built on pitching depth and sound defense, two factors that should keep Jesuit in the hunt for a deep playoff run. With a solid mix of experienced seniors and talented underclassmen, the Blue Jays have the pieces to contend for a State Title.

Team Strengths

-Pitching Depth: Jesuit returns multiple quality arms, led by senior right-hander Jake Moreci, a LBCA All-Region selection who posted a 7-2 record with a 2.25 ERA last season. Senior Connor Donnelly also provides reliability on the mound, boasting a 5-0 record and a 1.73 ERA in 24 innings. Junior Maes Martin will play a key role after logging 45 innings with a 1.84 ERA in 2024.

-Defense: The Blue Jays take pride in their glove work, which will complement their strong pitching staff. With experienced infielders anchoring the defense, Jesuit should be a tough team to score against.

Key Returning Players

-Jake Moreci (Sr. P/INF): The ace of the staff, Moreci is a proven winner and will be relied upon in big games.

-Connor Donnelly (Sr. P/INF): A valuable two-way player, Donnelly provides another high-quality arm with command and consistency.

-Brandon Thomas (Sr. OF/P): A key bat in the lineup, Thomas hit .351 last season and will be an impact player at the plate and in the outfield.

-Marshal Serio (Jr. INF): A run producer (.333 AVG, 33 RBI, 9 2B), Serio will be a crucial part of the offense.

-Michael Brothers (Jr. OF): A speed threat who stole 19 bases in 2024, Brothers brings a dynamic element to the lineup.

-Derek DeLatte (Jr. INF): One of the team’s most consistent hitters, DeLatte batted .370 with 25 RBI last season and should be a middle-of-the-order presence.

-Maes Martin (Jr. P): Another reliable arm in the rotation, Martin’s 1.84 ERA in 45 innings last year makes him a key piece of the pitching staff.

Season Outlook

Jesuit has all the makings of a championship contender in 2025. The pitching staff is deep, the defense is solid, and the offense has a mix of contact hitters, run producers, and speed. If the Blue Jays can generate enough offense to complement their elite pitching, they will be a serious threat in Class 5A. With a strong senior class leading the way, Jesuit has the potential to take the next step and make a run at the State Championship.
