2025 Team Preview: Lutcher High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Lutcher Bulldogs enter 2025 as the reigning Non-Select Division II State Champions, carrying both the confidence of last year’s success and the challenge of replacing a significant portion of their roster. With a program built on pitching and defense, head coach Ryan Jensen will rely heavily on senior leader Marshall Louque and a strong group of young arms. However, the lack of varsity experience among position players creates both an opportunity for fresh faces to emerge and uncertainty as the Bulldogs strive to repeat their championship run.

Pitching remains the cornerstone of Lutcher’s success. Senior Marshall Louque is the undisputed ace of the staff, bringing consistency and dominance every time he steps on the mound. The LSU recruit is regarded as one of the best players in the state, and has continued to refine his craft, showing growth in pitch efficiency and command. Last season, Louque posted an 8-2 record with a 1.76 ERA and 92 K's across 67 2/3 IP, while also hitting at a .413 clip with 7 HR and 39 RBI.

Behind him, junior Dane Bodin is primed for a breakout season as he transitions from a key reliever to a starter. Bodin's improved velocity and secondary pitches could make him a formidable No. 2 in the rotation. Senior Ethan Detillier and junior left-hander Cameron DeRoche bring valuable depth to the starting staff, while juniors Thomas Roussel and sophomore Davis St. Pierre provide promising upside out of the bullpen with their hard-throwing potential. The bullpen is deep, with a large group of seniors ready to contribute in short stints. While Louque anchors the rotation, the Bulldogs will lean on their depth to navigate a challenging schedule.

The Bulldogs return only two players with more than 15 varsity at-bats and three pitchers with varsity innings under their belts. Out of a roster of 7 players who have suited up for a varsity game, the majority of the team will face the steep learning curve of stepping into high-pressure situations.

With position battles unfolding across the diamond, finding consistent contributors to support Louque will be critical. Several players, including junior Bryson Keller and sophomore Dalton St. Pierre, have shown significant potential and could step into key roles offensively and defensively.

While Louque, Keller, and Bodin are locks for key roles, the rest of the lineup is wide open. Catcher duties will likely be split between Keller and sophomore Dalton St. Pierre, with both players needing to be in the lineup for their offensive contributions.

Bodin’s defensive versatility allows him to play both infield and outfield, but beyond that, nearly every spot is up for grabs. The coaching staff anticipates heavy competition in the early part of the season, with as many as 16 players vying for significant playing time.

This depth offers exciting potential but raises questions about consistency. The Bulldogs will need players to embrace their roles, whether as starters or contributors in smaller capacities, to maximize the team’s overall success.

The 2025 Bulldogs are built around a foundation of pitching and defense, with a heavy dose of athleticism and versatility. Offensively, the team may rely more on manufacturing runs and creating chaos on the basepaths than in years past.

The early-season schedule is challenging, but it will provide valuable opportunities for this inexperienced group to grow. By the time district play rolls around, expect the Bulldogs to be a far more cohesive and dangerous unit.

Repeating as State Champions is never easy, especially with so many new faces, but Lutcher has the tools and leadership to make another deep postseason run. As always, the success of this team will depend on its ability to develop and adapt as the season progresses.
