2025 Team Preview: Parkview Baptist School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook

The Parkview Baptist Eagles enter the 2025 season with high expectations after falling just short in 2024 with a tough semifinal loss to University Lab. Under the guidance of Head Coach Phillip Hawke, the Eagles have established themselves as one of the most consistent and disciplined programs in Class 3A. With a record of 103-39 during Hawke’s tenure as the head man of the program, Parkview Baptist's success has been fueled by a commitment to pitching, defense, and strong team chemistry — all of which will once again be key strengths for the 2025 squad.

The biggest challenge this season will be replacing key offensive contributors from 2024, such as Brant Melancon (Southeastern Louisiana) and Thomas Bonaventure (Loyola-New Orleans). However, the roster is loaded with experienced talent and a group of young players ready to step into larger roles. If the Eagles can piece together consistent production at the plate, this team has all the tools to make another deep postseason run and potentially bring home a state title.

One thing that the Eagles won't be lacking this year is pitching, as they have one of the deepest and most talented pitching staffs in the state, featuring a stable of pitchers capable of dominating any lineup. To go along with their elite pitching staff is a really good defense that is anchored by a standout infield and athletic outfielders who can cover a lot of ground. Parkview Baptist also has a tight-knit group fueled by strong leadership and a chip on their shoulder after last year’s near miss.

Top Returning Players

1. Senior RHP/INF Cade Durbin (UL-Lafayette Signee)

2024 Stats: 7-1, 37.2 IP, 30 H, 7 ER, 49 K, 1.30 ERA; .326 BA, .450 OBP

A cerebral pitcher with elite command, Durbin mixes an 88-90 mph fastball with a devastating slider and changeup. He’s also a key offensive contributor and infield stalwart.

2. Senior RHP/1B Sam Mitchell (UL-Lafayette Signee)

2024 Stats: 4-1, 50.1 IP, 36 H, 14 ER, 72 K, 1.95 ERA; .367 BA, .578 OBP

A dominant presence on the mound with a low-90s fastball and excellent three-pitch mix. Mitchell also brings power and physicality to the heart of the batting order.

3. Senior INF/RHP Kelan Guidry

2024 Stats: .325 BA, .449 OBP, 19 SB

A sparkplug at the top of the order with elite speed and base-stealing ability. Guidry is also a defensive standout and provides bullpen depth with a fastball into the upper-80's.

4. Senior C Micah Landry

2024 Stats: .290 BA, .448 OBP, 2 HR, 19 RBI

A physical presence behind the plate with advanced receiving and blocking skills. Landry’s power potential could make him a key run producer this season.

5. Senior RHP Will Robinson (Belhaven Signee)

2024 Stats: 5.2 IP, 2 H, 13 K

After missing most of 2024 due to injury, Robinson looks poised to have a breakout senior season as a closer. His breaking ball is among the best in the area.

6. Senior OF Noah Graves

Started at left field at end of the 2024 season, and should make a major impact in the lineup for Parkview Baptist this season.  Graves was also the football team's starting quarterback this past fall.

7. Senior INF Tyler Barrient

Barrient has the potential to be a middle of the order bat and will see time on both corners of the infield after a solid summer season and a strong offseason.

8. Senior UTL Jacob Hess

A leader and a true "swiss-army knife" who can play anywhere on the infield and the outfield.  Hess features one of the best defensive gloves on the team and was also a major piece of the Eagles football program.

9. Junior RHP Logan Sorrel

2024 Stats: 54 IP, 20 H, 7 ER, 70 K, 0.91 ERA; .117 BAA

A 6’4” flamethrower with a low-90s fastball and a sharp breaking ball. Sorrel could be one of the most dominant arms in Louisiana this season.

10. Junior OF Seth DeGeorge

2024 Stats: .270 BA, .435 OBP, 5 2B, 1 HR, 17 RBI, 16 SB

A three-year starter who combines plus defense with speed and power potential. DeGeorge will be a steady presence in the outfield and lineup.

11. Junior RHP/UTIL Henry Beckers

2024 Stats: Limited in 2024 due to injury (5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 11 K)

Beckers has the tools to dominate both as a pitcher and hitter. Expect him to log significant innings and be a key contributor offensively.

Underclassmen To Watch

1. Sophomore OF/LHP Clayton Fontenot

The 8th ranked player in 2027 comes into his sophomore campaign ready to make a major impact early for the Eagles.  High-twitch athlete with tools across the board and a very competitive nature.  Fontenot has a rare blend of speed and power that could see him climbing into the top 3rd of the lineup and give Parkview Baptist an offensive boost in what is already a talented lineup.

2. Sophomore LHP Jake Wooten

The southpaw is coming off a big summer campaign and according to Coach Hawke, he has worked hard this offseason to build strength that should pay off on the mound this spring.  Wooten sports a low-mid 80's fastball with arm-side run, and both a plus breaking ball and changeup to put hitters away.  Fans should expect to see Wooten step up and log a number of innings as a sophomore this season.

3. Sophomore INF Gatlyn Grace

Another guy who is coming off a nice summer on the circuit, Grace brings some nice tools to an already stellar defensive infield and should push for playing time in a number of roles.  The sophomore middle-infielder is a name to follow this spring and could be a breakout candidate.

Summary

The Parkview Baptist Eagles look to be built for another deep run in 2025. With an elite pitching staff leading the way, strong defensive play, and a chip on their shoulder after last year’s finish, this team is battle-tested and hungry. If the offense can come together, the Eagles have all the ingredients to make it back to Sulphur to contend for a Select D-III State Championship.
