Team Outlook
The Prairieville Hurricanes enter their inaugural season as a unique mix of talent from St. Amant, Dutchtown, East Ascension, Ascension Christian, and a promising group of freshmen. In just six months, the team has come together with a shared goal of laying the foundation for a competitive program. Coach Kade Keowen and his staff have emphasized three key areas: defensive excellence, pounding the strike zone, and aggressive baserunning, all of which will serve as the foundation for success as they compete in Class 5A right out of the gate.
With a roster of 39 players, including a core of talented juniors and sophomores, the Hurricanes are focused on building their identity. While they are a young and inexperienced group at the varsity level, the collective work ethic and team chemistry suggest they will be ready to compete.
“We feel like the ‘Storm is Coming’ in Prairieville, Louisiana,” said Coach Keowen. “Now we get to turn the lights on and compete.”
The Hurricanes are making history by jumping straight into 5A varsity baseball, an ambitious step that reflects the confidence and vision of this new program. With standout players like Colton Morris, Grant Gautreau, and Ethan Pugh leading the way, the Hurricanes are poised to make waves in their first season.
Top Upperclassmen
-Senior INF Ethan Pugh: As the lone senior on the Hurricanes' roster, Ethan Pugh will play a pivotal role in guiding this first-year program. A versatile infielder, Ethan’s ability to adapt to multiple infield positions provides flexibility depending on the pitching matchup. His leadership and experience will be invaluable on and off the field as the Hurricanes navigate the challenges of their inaugural season in Class 5A. Expect him to set the tone defensively and provide a steady presence at the plate.
-Junior SS/RHP Colton Morris: A cornerstone player for the Hurricanes, who will anchor both the middle infield and the top of the pitching rotation. Coming off a stellar summer with Impact Sports, where he slugged 6 home runs and flashed a fastball touching 85 mph, Morris will be relied upon to deliver in big moments both at shortstop and on the mound. His two-way talent and consistency make him one of the key players to watch this season, and his leadership will be crucial in shaping the team's culture.
-Junior C Grant Gautreau: A physically strong and athletic backstop, Grant Gautreau will take on the demanding role of starting catcher while also being a force in the middle of the Hurricanes' lineup. His experience in competitive powerlifting showcases his dedication to strength and conditioning, which translates to his durability and explosiveness on the field. Grant’s ability to handle a young pitching staff and produce offensively will be vital to the Hurricanes' success in their first season.
-Junior RHP Maxwell Sanchez: Sanchez is expected to be another key piece of the rotation, complementing Colton Morris on the mound. A high-ceiling pitcher with developing stuff, Sanchez brings competitiveness and depth to the pitching staff, which will be crucial for a young team facing a tough Class 5A schedule.
-Junior RHP Dylan McClure: Another arm that Coach Keowen will count on, McClure brings a mix of potential and poise to the mound. His ability to attack the strike zone and keep hitters off balance will be key in helping the Hurricanes stay competitive against more experienced opponents.
-Junior INF/OF Cade Rowell: Rowell has shown an early knack for swinging the bat well, providing offensive firepower and versatility in the field. Whether playing infield or outfield, his athleticism and hitting ability will make him a consistent contributor for the Hurricanes.
-Junior OF Luke Gisclair: Gisclair has impressed early with his offensive output, giving the Hurricanes another potent bat in their lineup. His ability to produce at the plate and cover ground in the outfield will help solidify the team's defense and provide much-needed consistency in their first year of competition.
Although the Prairieville Hurricanes are young and face the challenge of stepping into one of Louisiana’s toughest classifications in their first year, the combination of talent, leadership, and disciplined play gives them the tools to compete. With Coach Keowen at the helm and the motto “The Storm is Coming” as their rallying cry, the Hurricanes are set to make their debut a memorable one.
