2025 Team Preview: St. Louis Catholic High School

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State.  Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.  If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Preview

The St. Louis Catholic Saints are coming off a highly successful 2024 campaign, where they reached the Select Division II State Championship game. Despite falling short of the ultimate goal, the Saints have established themselves as perennial contenders under Head Coach Connor Lloyd. However, with a roster featuring a mix of experienced upperclassmen and young, emerging talent, the 2025 season presents new challenges and opportunities for this resilient squad.

Team Strengths

-Defense: The Saints pride themselves on clean, fundamental baseball, anchored by versatile defenders across the diamond. Their ability to limit mistakes and make the routine plays will be key to their success.

-Team Speed: With multiple players who can impact the game on the bases, St. Louis Catholic will look to create pressure and manufacture runs in tight contests.

Team Weakness

-Varsity Experience: While the Saints have some returning contributors from their state runner-up team, much of the roster will be stepping into expanded roles. Growing pains are expected early in the season as the team adjusts to the demands of what looks to be a challenging schedule.

Top Returning Upperclassmen

-Junior MIF/RHP Trace Moreau (6’1”, 165 lbs.): A key contributor from last year’s lineup, Moreau is a savvy, athletic player who can make an impact in all phases of the game. His versatility allows him to play anywhere on the field, and he brings next-level tools on both sides of the ball. On the mound, Moreau features a low-80s fastball and excellent command, making him a reliable strike-thrower who competes every pitch.

-Senior OF/RHP Quincy Chiasson: The team captain and emotional leader, Chiasson is a dynamic, next-level athlete with excellent speed. A fierce competitor, Chiasson sets the tone for the Saints with his toughness and work ethic, whether patrolling the outfield or contributing on the mound.

-Senior MIF Grant Habetz: A scrappy, high-IQ player, Habetz is a veteran of big games with three starts in the state tournament under his belt. His game awareness and leadership will be invaluable for the Saints’ young roster.

-Junior 1B/RHP Jack Garcille: With a big frame and a strong presence on the mound and at the plate, Garcille brings a unique skill set to the Saints. He provides power in the middle of the lineup and a steady glove at first base, giving the Saints a dependable option in critical moments.

-Junior C/OF/RHP Asa Listi: An energetic, fast-twitch athlete, Listi is a workhorse behind the plate with a solid pop time around 2.00. His versatility allows him to contribute in the outfield or on the mound, making him a vital piece of the Saints’ puzzle.

Top Underclassmen to Watch

-Sophomore C/INF Luke Houssiere: A scrappy, high-energy player, Houssiere is a competitor who can step in and contribute anywhere on the field. His versatility and hustle make him a valuable asset as he grows into a larger role.

-Sophomore OF/RHP Karter Orndoff: A dynamic athlete with good instincts in the outfield and on the bases, Orndoff is a versatile player capable of excelling in any of the three outfield spots. He brings a competitive approach at the plate and an advanced understanding of the game.

-Sophomore INF/RHP Zach LeBeouf: A high-motor competitor, LeBeouf is a solid all-around player who can slot in anywhere on the infield. He also provides depth on the mound as a reliable strike-thrower.

-Freshman C Brody Boudreaux: Boudreaux has a big frame and shows advanced defensive skills for his age. With a pop time consistently around 2.1–2.2, he could earn varsity time in specific situations, especially as he continues to develop.

Outlook

Coach Lloyd is optimistic yet realistic about the challenges ahead. “We face a very tough schedule with very little experience and will likely have our work cut out for us early in the year as we face off with some of the best teams and players in the state,” he said. However, he remains confident in the team’s strengths, citing their ability to play clean defense, throw strikes, and manufacture runs as keys to success.

As the Saints navigate a tough schedule and grow into their roles, Coach Lloyd expects steady improvement and believes this team has the potential to make a deep playoff run when it matters most.

The St. Louis Catholic Saints will rely on their defense, team speed, and strong leadership from their upperclassmen to navigate the early challenges of the season. While their inexperience may show at times, the Saints have a track record of peaking at the right time. If the younger players can adapt to the varsity level and contribute consistently, this team has the tools to make another run at a title.
