2025 Team Preview: Vandebilt Catholic High School
January 21, 2025
The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.
Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the Bayou State. Each week, we will be releasing our Player and Pitcher of the Week, updating our Power 25 Rankings, as well as additional content that is focused strictly on high school baseball in Louisiana.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches. If you have not received a questionnaire and would like to fill one out, please email State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]

Team Outlook
The Vandebilt Catholic Terriers enter the 2025 season riding a wave of sustained success. Over the past four years, the program has solidified itself as a powerhouse, making the state tournament each year while securing a Class 4A state title in 2022 and finishing as runner-up in 2023. With an impressive 19-6 playoff record and an average of 28 wins per season, the Terriers are hungry for another championship run under the leadership of Head Coach Chad Menard.
This year’s team is built on a foundation of experience, returning eight letter winners who account for 859 plate appearances and 155 innings pitched from the 2024 season. With a seasoned group of players who understand the intensity of playoff baseball, the Terriers are poised to be one of the most dangerous teams in Class 4A.
Senior INF Ethan Robert is a veteran middle-of-the-order presence that the Terriers are excited to have back this season. Robert was a key contributor in 2024, after hitting .339 with a .454 OBP and 23 RBI.
Along with Robert are a pair of juniors that are both looking to build upon their impressive sophomore campaigns last year.
Junior INF Spencer Guilbeau showed tremendous potential as a designated hitter last season, hitting for average and power. Guilbeau hit at a .402 clip last year with 13 XBH and 32 RBI. This off-season, he's really refined his strike zone recognition and has improved his ability to hit to all fields, which will put him in a great position for a breakout junior campaign.
Junior C Thomas LeCompte is a steady presence behind the plate, excelling at pitch frame and delivering quick, accurate throws. LeCompte finished last spring with a .342 AVG and 24 RBI, while only striking out 12 times in 142 plate appearances.
The Terriers' pitching staff will once again be headlined by senior LHP James Guidry, who is a two-time All-State honoree and was named the Class 4A MVP Pitcher in 2023. Highly recruited, but currently uncommitted, Guidry is a dominant southpaw with pinpoint control, as evidenced by his 0.98 ERA last spring.
With a veteran-laden roster and key players returning in both the lineup and on the mound, Vandebilt Catholic is primed to build on its recent success. The Terriers’ experience in high-pressure situations, combined with the leadership of Coach Menard, makes them a favorite to contend for the Select D-II state title. Expect Vandebilt Catholic to remain a postseason staple and make another deep run in 2025.
Key games against other top programs will test the Terriers early, but their combination of strong pitching, reliable defense, and an explosive offense should set the tone for another memorable season.
