The 2025 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state.  Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Louisiana.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Sulphur, LA, home of the LHSAA State Championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes a reality.  We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Louisiana.  We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, followed by our Power 25 Rankings release, and our always popular Game of the Week segment.

Team Outlook

The West Feliciana Saints are gearing up for the 2025 season with a lot of excitement after a strong 2024 campaign that ended with a 27-8 record. With Head Coach Gannon Achord at the helm, the Saints will rely on their experience and speed as they aim to make a deeper postseason run this year.

The Saints boast a wealth of returning talent in the outfield and on the mound, paired with a roster full of speed and game-tested players. These attributes will help West Feliciana remain competitive as they navigate the challenges of Class 4A.

A major hurdle for the Saints will be replacing key senior infielders from last season. The infield is currently a point of emphasis during the offseason, with several players competing for starting roles.

Competing for infield spots are seniors AJ Heiser and Hunter Young, juniors Myles Callegan, Blake Landry, Caden Bell, Ezra Morrow, and Cole Schexnayder, as well as sophomore Hollier Pierrelee. These players will look to complement senior Chip Joiner, a returning starter and one of the team's leaders. Joiner is expected to anchor the infield with his defensive versatility and steady bat.

The outfield is a significant strength for the Saints, with multiple returning starters providing both experience and production. Seniors Thomas Temple and Bruin Gilfoil will lead the way alongside fellow senior Brayden Toney and junior Jack Sam Leak. Their defensive prowess and ability to contribute offensively will be vital to the team's success.

Behind the plate, the Saints feature a duo in sophomore Mason Rogillio and junior Cole Schexnayder. Rogillio’s physicality and arm strength give him the potential to be a standout both offensively and defensively.

The pitching staff is another key component for the Saints, returning several reliable arms from 2024. Junior Blake Landry and senior Thomas Temple, along with seniors Bruin Gilfoil and Mason Oliveaux, will headline the rotation. These pitchers—all with significant varsity experience—will be tasked with setting the tone on the mound. In addition, the coaching staff is evaluating several underclassmen to step into bigger roles and add depth to the rotation and bullpen.

Top Returning Players

-Senior OF/LHP Thomas Temple: A dual-threat player who provides leadership, consistency in the outfield, and reliability on the mound.

-Senior INF Chip Joiner: A steady presence in the infield with strong defensive skills and a reliable bat.

-Junior RHP/INF Blake Landry: Expected to be one of the pitching staff's leaders, combining experience with a solid repertoire, and is also competing for a spot on the infield.

-Senior RHP Mason Oliveaux: Another veteran arm who will play a key role in the Saints' pitching success.

-Sophomore C Mason Rogillio: The physical backstop looks to build on what was a jam-up freshman campaign.  

The Saints have the tools to be a formidable force in Class 4A this season. While the infield will require some reshuffling and competition, the team’s returning talent and depth—particularly in the outfield and pitching staff—should provide a strong foundation. With Coach Achord’s leadership, the Saints aim to improve on last year’s playoff performance.
