The annual Louisiana All-State Games took place on Saturday, November 4th, at Alex Box Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University, in Baton Rouge, LA. The premier invite only event saw just under one hundred of the top prospects from the state of Louisiana perform in front of dozens of college coaches, the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff, as well as Prep Baseball Report’s executive director Sean Duncan.

Saturday’s All-State Games was perhaps the most talent-rich, one-day event our scouting staff has seen in the state of Louisiana. With rosters comprised of not only, high-level underclass talent, but also several talented unsigned seniors, the event attracted college programs from all levels.

Today, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana takes a look at a few quick hits, observations and revelations from Saturday’s All-State Games.

+ 2021 1B/LHP Ben Tate (Teurlings Catholic HS, LA) bursted on the scene at July’s Underclass Games, and checked-in at No. 4 in the initial release of the Louisiana class of 2021 rankings. On Saturday, Tate further cemented himself as one of the premier prospects in Louisiana, and possibly the country. A legitimate two-way prospect, the athletic 6-foot, 175-pound left-handed pitcher oozes projection on the mound with a long, clean arm action and fluid athleticism throughout his delivery, running his fastball up to 84 mph and showed advanced feel to spin a breaking ball that has quality depth. Offensively, Tate shows an extremely polished and mature approach for his age. He hits from a balanced, simple setup, showing a line-drive approach and a willingness to use the entire field. The path is direct and compact, yet still able to generate bat speed and strength at contact. Defensively, Tate worked at first base on Saturday and showed uncanny feel and athleticism for his age with soft hands, fluid footwork and quality arm strength with accuracy and carry on throws.

+ 2021 C Baylor Cobb ( Franklin Parish HS, LA) is a physical presence already, standing at 6-foot-2, 190-pounds. A polished defender already, Cobb presents a firm target, receiving the baseball easily, transferring quickly and showed consistent strong, accurate throws down to second, cutting down base stealers in game with relative ease. A left-handed hitter, Cobb hits from a balanced setup, using a gap-to-gap approach, generating bat speed and strength at contact that flashes present power to his pull side.

+ 2020 OF Joe Delaney (Brother Martin HS, LA) caught the attention of many in attendance from the get-go, as the twitchy outfielder posted an explosive 6.58 60-yard dash. A lean 5-foot-9, 149-pound frame, Delaney shows traits and the potential of developing into a premium defender in the outfield with long stride, fluid athleticism and quick twitch actions.

+ Southern Miss recruit and Crusader teammate of Delaney, 2020 RHP Jake Cohen (Brother Martin HS, LA) was a fun watch on Saturday. Cohen displays advanced athleticism on the mound, mixing his rhythm and tempo up, and showed advanced feel to pitch. Pitching 82-85 mph with his fastball, Cohen showed the ability to sink and command the pitch, as well as the ability to spin a quality breaking ball with depth and shape.

+ 2019 OF Carter Quinn (Barbe HS, LA) was one of, if not the top, performer on Saturday. A lean, athletic 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame, Quinn is a fluid athlete that posted a 6.93 60-yard dash. The separator for Quinn, however, is the in-game speed that was on display Saturday. Defensively, Quinn shows advanced instincts, getting outstanding reads and jumps on balls, and continues to show outstanding tracking speed in the outfield. He also showed off quality arm strength with carry and accuracy on throws, posting a positional velocity of 90 mph during the workout portion of the event. A left-handed hitter, Quinn hits from a balanced, athletic setup with fluid rhythm throughout his swing, generating quality bat speed and strength at contact. In game action, Quinn made loud contact in two at-bats, shooting a backside double off the wall in one, and sending a scorching shot off the pitcher’s glove in another.

+ 2019 IF Garret Felix (Acadiana HS, LA) is a polished left-handed hitting middle infielder that showed a well-rounded game, posting a 6.83 60-dash, 82 mph positional velocity and an 86 mph exit velocity. Offensively, Felix hits from an athletic, balanced setup with short stride and simple load. Felix shows the ability to consistently put the barrel on the baseball, using a line-drive, gap-to-gap approach and a short, compact stroke. In-game Felix made consistent hard contact, that included a well-struck ball in the left-center gap.

+ 2018 IF/RHP Rhett Hebert (Zachary HS, LA) was another big winner from Saturday’s All-State Games. Showing a quality, well-round overall game, Hebert posted a 6.79 60-yard dash with solid actions and arm strength across the infield posting a positional velocity of 85 mph. A right-handed hitter, Hebert has shown increasing rhythm and fluidity to his stroke, and consistently puts the barrel on the baseball using a line-drive, gap-to-gap approach. Clearly a tough, passionate player, Hebert’s high motor and energy level allow for his tools to play up in game.

+ 2018 LHP Kade Gonsoulin (Catholic(NI) HS, LA) was a relative unknown heading into Saturday’s All-State Games. An athletic 5-foot-11, 175-pound left-hander, Gonsoulin showed a polished, athletic delivery with a loose, medium arm stroke and quick arm speed. Pitching 84-85 mph with his fastball, Gonsoulin showed ability to command the strike zone, as well as quality secondary stuff that included a sharp breaking ball with tight spin and depth at 71-72 mph.
