The PBR Future Games has become the premier event of the summer, for uncommitted baseball prospects, from across the country.  Prior to each Future Games, our staff discusses the roster and what we expect from each prospect.  This summer, we definitely felt like 2023 Griffin Cooley would be a name to remember after the event, and he proved us right.  In our opening game against Team Missouri, the Kinder HS product hit an opposite field double, as well as a pull side home run and was named the Dick's Sporting Goods Player of the Game.  Cooley was on everyone's radars after that game, especially those of new recruiting coordinator Dan Fitzgerald and the LSU Tigers.  After performing well again at a LSU camp in September, the Tigers offered Cooley and he accepted.  Below, we catch up with Cooley about his commitment process, what led him to the Tigers, and his advice for future prospects in Louisiana.

 

-Congratulations on committing to Louisiana State University!  What led you to commit to the Tigers?

Growing up in Louisiana, it has always been a dream of mine to play for LSU.  Once I had the opportunity to visit "The Box" and meet the coaching staff, I knew that was where I wanted to be.

 

-All prospects have people that have helped them along their journey.  Who would you like to thank for helping you get to this point today?

First, I would like to thank God for the talent he has blessed me with to play the game.  I would like ot thank my parents for all of the sacrifices and time that they provided for me to chase my dream.  Also, my oldest brother, Welles, for his guidance and always pushing me to do my best.  He always knew what it took to be a winner and to compete at the highest level.  

 

-You're a left-handed hitting outfielder for Kinder High School.  How would you describe your style of play for LSU fans who may not know you yet?

I play the game aggressive and I am a hard nosed gritty player who likes to win.  My mentality is to hit the ball hard to all areas of the field and to use my speed to put pressure on the opposing team.  I also pride myself in being very coachable and a being a great teammate.  

 

-You're recruiting process has finally come to an end during your junior year of high school.  What advice would you give to the next wave of prospects who are about to begin their recruiting journey?

Probably the biggest thing I would share with those guys is to never stop working hard because you never know when your time and opportunity presents itself.  Work in silence and always remember someone is watching.
