2022 Gavin Guidry (Barbe H.S.) started receiving interest from multiple Division I programs in the fall of his freshman year.  The state's #1 ranked player and #16 nationally, in the 2022 class, has made his commitment official tonight; choosing to stay home and play for Louisiana State University.  In this edition of "Commitment Spotlight", we ask the Barbe product about his recruiting journey, his experience at the Future Games, and advice for future prospects as they begin to navigate the recruiting waters.  

 

-Several major Division I programs recruited you very hard.  What were the key deciding factor(s) in choosing to commit to LSU?

 

"I had a great relationship with the coaches and felt really comfortable there.  It felt like another home."

 

-You've had quite the journey to get to where you are today.  Who and/or what were instrumental in your recruiting process?

 

"First off, God has played the biggest role and without my faith in him; I wouldn't be where I am today.  My family has been very supportive through it all, but development wise, I would really like to thank my coaches.  They were there grinding with me day in and day out and were by my side when most others were not, regardless, of my production.  They were always trying to make me better."

 

-During the summer of 2019, you participated in the PBR Future Games.  Can you tell us a little bit about your experience?

 

"When I went to the PBR Future Games, the summer heading into my sophomore year, it was one of the greatest experiences I've ever had.  Scouts were everywhere and it forces you to play through a lot of pressure.  I'd definitely do it all over again."

 

-Your recruitment process finally comes to an end after almost two and a half years.  What advice would you offer to future prospects as they begin their recruiting process?

 

"I'm not going to tell any one prospect how to approach this process, because every person has their own journey.  With that being said, I would tell them to take their time and understand what they want as a 20 year old; not what they want as a 15 year old.  Everything isn't always about the feel good situation.  You need to understand what you want out of the process."
