After a 27 and 4 regular season and an undefeated post-season, Teurlings Catholic takes home the number 1 overall ranking. With seven victories in the playoffs, Teurlings Catholic finished at an impressive 34 and 4 record. In round one, they defeated No. 32 St. Martinville by a score of 10 to 0. They then moved on to No. 16 Livonia, ending the series in two games, with scores of 14 to 2, and 9 to 0. In the quarterfinals, Teurlings swept No. 9 Grant with scores of 11 to 1, and 2 to 0. The Rebels then matched up with crosstown rival Breaux Bridge in the semi-finals, and after an exciting game that climaxed when LSU recruit, Nick Webre, sent a solo homer over the right-field wall in the bottom of 6th, allowing Teurlings Catholic to come away with a 5 to 4 victory. In another one-run battle, they defeated West Ouachita by a score of 3 to 2 to take home the class 4A state championship.

Although Teurlings Catholic took home the No. 1 overall ranking, it was an extremely tough call, especially considering our No. 2 program completed a 3-peat in Louisiana’s highest classification, class 5A. Barbe finished the regular season 28 and 6, claiming the No. 1 seed in the class 5A playoffs. After a clean sweep in the playoffs, Barbe ran their record to 35 and 6. In round one, they defeated No. 32 John Ehret, 3 to 0. They then faced off against No. 17 Rummel, and won by scores of 4 to 1, and 10-0. In quarterfinal action, the Bucs faced off against No. 24 St. Amant. They defeated LSU recruit, Blayne Enlow, 3 to 0 in game one, and wrapped up the series in game two by a score of 6 to 1. Barbe then faced off against another class 5A powerhouse, Catholic(BR), in semi-final action. In an extra-inning battle, Barbe walked off the Bears with a score of 2 to 1. The Bucs then captured their fourth state championship in the last five years by defeating Byrd 5 to 2.

The number three team in our Power 25 also claimed a state championship. St. Thomas Aquinas took home the class 2A state championship, after an astounding 25 and 2 regular season that also saw the Falcons go 8 and 1 against class 4A and 5A competition. St. Thomas Aquinas went 7 and 1 in the playoffs, bolstering their overall record to 32 and 3. In round one they defeated No. 32 Loreauville, 7 to 4. The Falcons then swept No. 17 DeQuincy, 5 to 0 and 10 to 0. They then met up with No. 8 Notre Dame in quarterfinal action. After a defeat in game one, 7 to 3, the Falcons responded by taking the final two games by scores of 5 to 3 and 8 to 1. The Falcons completed their state championship run by defeating No. 5 Opelousas Catholic 7 to 1 in semifinal action and No. 2 St. Charles Catholic 3 to 1, in the state championship.

Coming in at number 4 in the Power 25 is Catholic(BR). The only program to win a state championship in class 5A the last five years other that isn’t Barbe, the Bears finished the regular season 24 and 5. After a defeat in the semifinals, to eventual state champion Barbe, Catholic(BR), finished with a record of 29 and 7.

Rounding out the top five is class 5A runner-up, Byrd. The Jackets finished the regular season 19 and 10. Claiming the No. 11 seed heading into the playoffs, Byrd went on an impressive run, which included defeating rival and No. 3 seed Airline in the quarterfinals. At the conclusion of the playoffs, after the loss in state championship, Byrd’s finished with a 25 and 12 record.
