Game One

Game 1 Recap:

MANDEVILLE, LA – The Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff headed over to St. Paul’s high school on Saturday afternoon, as the Wolves hosted Dutchtown high school, in the first of two contests on the day.

The Wolves eventually claimed a 6-2 win, as 2019 RHP Jacob Boudreaux (St. Paul’s HS, LA) was affective in five innings of work, allowing only two runs on four hits.

2021 1B Matthew Russo (St. Paul’s HS, LA) led the way for the Wolves offensively, as the physical left-handed hitter finished the day 2-for-4 with two RBI. 2019 1B Owen Hnatyshyn (St. Paul’s HS, LA) and 2020 OF Sam Heap (St. Paul’s HS, LA) also put together a multi-hit performance, as both finished the contest 2-for-4, with Hnatyshyn adding a loud double, and Heap scoring a run.

Belhaven recruit, 2019 2B Kyle McLaughlin (St. Paul’s HS, LA) finished the contest 1-for-1 with two walks, two runs scored, one RBI, and added a stolen base atop the Wolves’ lineup.

2019 OF Dalton Barbier (Dutchtown HS, LA) led the way offensively for the Griffins’, finishing the contest 2-for-3 with an RBI, and a double. While Delgado recruit, 2019 SS Brayden Caskey (Dutchtown HS, LA) finished 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored.

2019 OF Lamarcus Jones (Dutchtown HS, LA) showed off an elite run tool, as the right-handed hitter gave a home-to-1st time of 4.11-seconds, while finishing the day 1-for-4 with a double.

2020 RHP Brock Barthelemy (Dutchtown HS, LA) worked two innings of relief in the loss Saturday, allowing one earned run on four hits, while running his fastball up to 87 mph.

Game Two

Denham Springs       10
St. Paul’s                     6 

Game 2 Recap:

MANDEVILLE, LA – In the second game of the day Saturday, the St. Paul’s Wolves hosted Denham Springs HS, as the Yellow Jackets would eventually claim a 10-6 win, as the Yellow Jackets scored four in the top of the 9th to overcome a three-run bottom of the 7th inning from the Wolves’ that forced the game into extra innings.

Offensively, the Yellow Jackets were led by 2019 OF Tyler Evans (Denham Springs HS, LA) who finished the contest 2-for-3 with four RBI, and a run scored.

Louisiana State recruit, 2019 SS Cade Doughty (Denham Springs HS, LA) showed why he is the No. 1 player in Louisiana’s 2019 class Saturday, making several outstanding defensive plays at shortstop, and finished the day 2-for-5 with a double, and three runs scored.  

LSU-Eunice JC recruit, 2019 OF Josh Preston (Denham Springs HS, LA) got the Yellow Jacket offense going early, as the left-handed hitter blasted a lead-off home run over the right-field wall. He finished the contest 1-for-2 with two runs scored, drawing three walks.

2019 RHP Jacob Scherer (St. Paul’s HS, LA) tossed two and two-thirds innings of relief for the Wolves Saturday, allowing no runs on two hits, while striking out two, running his fastball up to 86 mph. The right-handed hitter also finished the contest 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Belhaven recruit, 2019 2B Kyle McLaughlin (St. Paul’s HS, LA) continued his strong day in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs scored. While 2019 OF William Duncan (St. Paul's HS, LA) finished 1-for-4 with two RBI.
