HIgh School Team Preview: Ouachita Christian

Trey Sofio
Louisiana Scouting Director

The Louisiana high school season kicks off on February 18, the first day for regular season games. Most teams began practice on January 22nd, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Stat Rat ( x-factor)

The Eagles look to follow up on an impressive 2018 season, as they reached the Semi-Finals and finished with a 27-9 record. Offensively they return 1st team All-State selection, Bossier Parish CC recruit, 2019 1B Dale Fulmer. Fulmer provides the OCS lineup with firepower in the middle of the order. In 2018, Fulmer hit .452 with 15 doubles, four home runs, and collected 50 RBI. The Eagles also return Southeastern Louisiana recruit, 2019 C Clint Hargrave. One of the best defensive catchers in the state and a member of Louisiana's 2017 PBR Future Games team, Hargrave has been a consistent performer in his high school career, impacting the game on defense, as well as producing on offense. In his junior season, Hargrave hit .390 with five home runs, and 42 RBI. On the mound, Louisiana Tech recruit, 2019 RHP Seth Traweek looks to regain form after being sidelined much of his junior season. As a sophomore, Traweek showed he could be a dominating ace, finishing with a record of 7-3 and an ERA of 1.73. A Dodge City CC recruit, 2019 LHP Ty Pankey is another returning arm for the Eagles. The 2018 District 2-1A Pitcher of the Year, Pankey  finished his junior season 6-1  with a 2.18 ERA.

Outlook

Expectations are high for Coach John Parker, as he will field an experienced and talented roster in 2019. The Eagles return six every day starters and all but 44 innings pitched from last season for the 2019 season. In addition to the veterans returning, the future is extremely bright for OCS, with talented youngsters like 2022 RHP Kade Woods, who ran his fastball up to 88 mph earlier this winter, 2021 OF/RHP Hunter Herring, and 2021 RHP/IF Jon Michael Cader.. A state title is certainly in the Eagles sights as they head into the spring, but first they will look to repeat as District 2-1A champs.
