X-FACTOR
Senior Jordan Szush will return at shortstop for the Cardinals in 2017. Szush showed off his quality defensive skills at January’s Unsigned Senior Showcase, showing soft hands, fluid footwork, and clean, quick exchanges. At the plate, expect the right-handed hitter to play a pivotal role at the top of the ED White Lineup.

OUTLOOK
The 2016 ED White Cardinals had a wildly successful season, evidence by the 31 and 5 overall record. The return of seven position players and eleven pitchers, obviously creates high expectations for the 2017 season. On the mound, the Cardinals are led by 2017 RHP Gabe Gravois, 2017 LHP Jon Omer and 2017 RHP Justin Loup. An All-State selection in 2016, 3B Collin Desandro, returns for 2017 and should give the Cardinals some firepower in the heart of the order. 2017 Rhett Ougel and 2017 Stephen Soignet will also provide a wealth of experience, having been three year starters.

BOTTOM LINE
Coach Shane Trosclair is entering his ninth season at the helm of the Cardinal program, and has certainly built a foundation for one of the most consistent programs in Southeast Louisiana. After an outstanding 2016 campaign that saw an impress regular season record, culminating with a Semi-Final appearance, the Cardinals look to take that next step in 2017, capturing that always elusive State Championship crown.
