X-FACTOR
McNeese State recruit, Reid Bourque, returns at shortstop for the 2017 Sam Houston Broncos. Bourque is an athletic defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and quality range. He will also play a pivotal role at the top of the Broncos this upcoming spring. A simple, compact left-handed stroke, he shows present bat speed, and a consistent, level path.

OUTLOOK
McNeese State recruit, Peyton Johnson, will certainly be providing thump in the heart of the Sam Houston lineup. Johnson is already an established veteran, and has shown off his big left-handed power during his sophomore and junior campaigns. Johnson is a physical 6-foot-1, 190-pounds with clear present strength, power to his pull side, and solid bat speed. Centenary recruit, Chris Haggard, is another veteran of the Bronco lineup returning for 2017. Haggard has a wealth of experience both as an infielder and pitcher, which could be invaluable as the Broncos look to take the crown of class 5A from district, and area, rival Barbe.

BOTTOM LINE
Coach Chad Hebert will be entering his first season at the helm of the Sam Houston Broncos, and although he is inheriting a very talented, and experience club, district 3-5A will be extremely competitive in 2017. Coach Hebert will certainly benefit the return of six position players and five pitchers for the 2017 season, as he prepares for battles against the likes of Barbe, Sulphur, Lafayette, Acadiana, Comeaux, and New Iberia.
