I-10 Border Battle: Infield Analysis

The I-10 Border Battle took place on Monday January 16th, at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. The open event saw players from all across the state of Louisiana and Texas in attendance.

Infield

+ Avery Davis, IF, South Beauregard, 2019
A 5-foot-11, 163-pound infielder with a medium, athletic frame. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, and clean exchanges. Short arm action into ¾ release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 73 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, smooth load, and toe tap on stride. Pull type hitter with some rhythm, level to slightly uphill path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 77 mph. Also posted a 7.51 60-yard dash.

+ Baylor Dillon, IF, Leesville, 2018
A 5-foot-6, 145-pound infielder with a medium, athletic frame. Solid athlete that posted a 7.19 60-yard dash.  Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, smooth load, and short stride. Line-drive type hitter, some rhythm, short path that can get in and out of zone too quickly with bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 75 mph. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, and clean exchanges. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 70 mph.

+ Bo Hardin, IF/RHP, Lafayette, 2017
Currently ranked No. 5 in Louisiana’s 2017 class. Athletic 6-foot, 180-pound frame, present strength, some room left to project out. One of the top arms in Louisiana’s 2017 class, last year’s class 5A MVP, and an outstanding student with 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, and plays through balls athletically. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 89 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, slight bar in load, leg lift, explosive lower half and solid balance. Line-drive type hitter with some rhythm, level path and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 86 mph. Quality overall athlete that posted a 6.80 60-yard dash.

+ Scott Jones, IF, Sulphur, 2018
Currently ranked No. 15 in Louisiana’s 2018 class. A 5-foot-9, 160-pound infielder with an athletic, strong frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride and explosive lower half. Line-drive, gap to gap type hitter with exceptional rhythm, short and level path, strength at contact and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 91 mph. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with some accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 78 mph. Also posted a 6.90 60-yard dash.

+ Jacob Lamkin, IF, St. Thomas More, 2018
A 5-foot-9, 175-pound infielder and right-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and clean exchanges. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy, and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 82 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride and quality balance. Line-drive, opposite field type hitter with fluid rhythm, uphill path and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 84 mph. Also posted a 7.45 60-yard dash. Right-handed pitcher with short arm action into high-3/4 release with quick arm speed and regular effort. Smooth rhythm, level shoulders, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 81-84 mph, touching 85 mph, with slight arm side run and command. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with gradual break and near fastball arm speed at 66-68 mph. Also showed a straight changeup with fastball arm speed at 75-76 mph.

+ Jarrett McDonald, IF, Sterlington, 2018
A 5-foot-10, 193-pound infielder with a strong, athletic frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, leg kick, solid lower half, and quality balance. Line-drive, gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, level path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 84 mph. Solid defender with average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges and plays through balls well. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws and a positional velocity of 79 mph. Also posted a 7.30 60-yard dash.

+ Davis Meche, IF, Barbe, 2020
A 5-foot-9, 140-pound infielder with an average athletic frame. Appears to be one of the top 2020 prospects in Louisiana. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges, plays through balls athletically, and shows advanced overall feel for infield play. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride and excellent balance. Line-drive type hitter with fluid rhythm, short, level path, advanced feel to hit and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 83 mph. Also posted a 7.51 60-yard dash.

+ Cameron Pradia, IF, Barbe, 2019
A 5-foot-9, 165-pound infielder with an average, athletic frame. Outstanding defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchanges and plays through balls athletically. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 79 mph. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, athletic setup, smooth load, short stride, quality lower half and balance. Gap to gap type hitter with fluid rhythm, short, level path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 87 mph. Quality overall athlete that also posted a 7.07 60-yard dash.

+ Jackson Russo, IF, Berchmans Academy, 2018
A 5-foot-11, 145-pound infielder with a medium, athletic frame. Solid defender with average hands, solid footwork, and clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy, and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 80 mph. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced setup, slight bar in load, leg kick and solid balance. Line-drive type hitter with stiff rhythm, level to slightly uphill path, and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 76 mph. Also posted a 7.69 60-yard dash.
