The inaugural Prep Baseball Report I-10 Border Battle at Lamar University took place on Monday, January 16th. The event was open to all 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 high school graduates. Here’s a quick look at some highlights from the day.
+ Unsigned 2017 RHP Bo Hardin (Lafayette) certainly made his presence known on Monday. The athletic 6-foot right-hander sat 89-91 mph with his fastball, showing natural arm side run and quality command of the pitch. Hardin also flashed a sharp slider at 76-78 mph with depth and tight spin. During the workout portion of event, Hardin showed off a strong arm from shortstop (89 mph across), as well as his athleticism, posting a 6.80 60-yard dash. Hardin is highly academic with a 4.0 GPA, 34 ACT and wants to study Aerospace Engineering.
+ 2019 OF Damon Fountain (Barbe) certainly passes the eye test. Lean, athletic 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame, long strider, fluid athlete that posted a 6.94 60-yard dash. Fountain showed off arm strength with carry on throws and a positional velocity of 86 mph. Right-handed hitter with long levers, natural leverage in swing, and showed quality bat speed producing a 90 mph exit velocity.
+ 2020 SS Davis Meche (Barbe) is an advanced young player. Meche showed quality hands, actions, fluid footwork, and advanced feel for infield play. He also showed a simple, compact left-handed stroke with direct path and barrel awareness.
+ Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, 2017 OF Jeff Elkins (AES) showed off a well-rounded toolset on Monday. Elkins could develop into a premium defender for the Cajuns, posting a 6.60 60-yard dash, fluid actions, tracking instincts, and solid arm strength with carry on throws, producing a positional velocity of 88 mph. Right-handed hitter with compact, powerful stroke that found consistent barrel in live game action and produced an exit velocity of 90 mph.
