METAIRIE, LA – The Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff headed to Mike Miley Playground on Thursday, as John Curtis HS and CE Byrd HS played the opening game of a best-of-three quarterfinal series to see who would move on to next weekend’s state championships in Sulphur, LA.

The Patriots would defeat the Jackets 12-2 in a shortened 5-inning game, to grab the 1-0 series lead. Louisiana State recruit, 2018 RHP Will Ripoll (John Curtis HS, LA) tossed five innings allowing two earned runs on two hits, while striking out six. Ripoll pitched 87-91 mph with his fastball, showing deception with late life, but struggled with command at times, walking five and hitting two batters.

Louisiana State recruit, 2018 1B Cade Beloso (John Curtis HS, LA) set the tone for the Patriots’ offense in the 1st inning, taking the first pitch he saw over the right field wall for a two-run home run. One of the most productive hitters the state of Louisiana has seen in recent history, Beloso didn’t seem affected by a lengthy layoff between the end of the regular season and yesterday’s first playoff game. He would finish the day 3-for-3 with a home run, double, five RBI, and three runs scored.

Tulane recruit, 2018 OF Logan Stevens (John Curtis HS, LA) would finish the day 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI for the Patriots, while Dayton recruit, 2018 C Jay Curtis (John Curtis HS, LA) would finish the day 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

John Curtis and Byrd will be back in action today at 4:00 PM at Mike Miley Stadium, as Mississippi Gulf Coast recruit, 2018 RHP Ian Landreneau (John Curtis HS, LA) will get the start for the Patriots as they look to get back to Sulphur, LA and defend their Division-1 state title.
