With the start of the 2015 spring season right around the corner, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana is pleased to release its class of 2016 Top 40 rankings. The 2015 and 2016 rankings will be updated periodically throughout the spring season, as well as the release of the 2017 classes and beyond, as we bring you all the detailed information regarding high school baseball in the state of Louisiana.
Let’s take a deeper look some players that made our initial rankings.
Jake Slaughter, a 6-foot-1 shortstop from Ouachita Christian and only player to attend the Prep Baseball report Super 60 from Louisiana, lands at number 1. At the Super 60 the Louisiana State commit ran a 6.91 60, had a solid round of batting practice, and flashed his quality actions and defensive ability in front of a large gathering of professional scouts. Slaughter’s teammate at Ouachita Christian and University of Texas commit, Ryan Reynolds, also checks in high on our list at number 4. The switch hitting corner infielder has shown loads of bat speed and big power from both sides of the dish. OCS should be a fun team to follow this spring with their loaded 2016 class.
Another dynamic duo of teammates that cracked the top ten are Brother Martin pitcher Keagan Gillies, No. 8, and Blair Frederick, No. 6. Gillies, a Tulane commit, has emerged this winter as a premium pitching prospect. The 6-foot-8 right-hander pitches 84-86 mph getting up to 87 with severe tilt and also shows an above average breaking ball with tight spin, depth, and velocity. A Louisiana State commit, Frederick will pitch in the upper 80s with a wipeout, swing-and-miss slider making this duo of arms a lethal combination for the defending catholic league champs.
Lastly, landing at number 3 on our list is Louisiana Elite, Covington HS standout, and Louisiana State commit Tyler Smith. The left-handed hitting outfielder has shown a speed/power combination from his wiry frame and had an outstanding showing at the WWBA this past summer with the Louisiana Knights.
Please keep an eye out as Prep Baseball Report Louisiana will begin a schedule of events once the spring season has concluded. Also, if you have not done so already, please click the link to fill out this free player profile to get your recruiting process started now.
