Trey Hawsey 1B / LHP / West Monroe, LA / 2024

Hawsey is the lone newcomer to the Top 10 in this rankings update and for good reason, as he enjoyed one of the most impressive sophomore campaigns this year in Louisiana, helping lead West Monroe to their first LHSAA Class 5A State Title since 1999.  Hawsey finished the season hitting at a .407 clip with 7 HR, 13 2B’s, and 40 RBI.  On the mound, he recorded two wins and two saves, while striking out 25 and posted a 2.94 ERA.  During the spring, Hawsey came up with big hit after big hit for the Rebels, with his biggest coming in the state semifinals against Dutchtown.  With West Monroe down 5-3 in the bottom of the 7th and with two men on, Hawsey launched a homerun to right centerfield to give the Rebels the 6-5 win over the Griffins.

Michael Ryan SS / OF / Archbishop Rummel , LA / 2024

Ryan announced his presence at our Southeast Louisiana Preseason ID in January, by posting a 6.59 in the 60 and recording a max exit velocity of 95 mph with wood.  His success translated to the field this spring, even after having to miss a couple of weeks towards the back half of the spring with an injury.  The LSU commit has a special combination of strength, speed, and twitch that makes him one of the brightest prospects in the state’s 2024 class, as Ryan moves up to the #4 spot in this rankings update.

Jackson Landry 1B / OF / Ascension Catholic, LA / 2024

Physical and imposing 6’5” 210 lbs. frame; Landry is a guy that has steadily improved with each look that we’ve had and had one heck of a sophomore year this spring.  Landry finished with 10 homeruns, earning himself First Team All-District honors as an outfielder.  He’s also pretty athletic (7.19 in the 60) for a physical prospect, which should only help his recruiting process, as he heads into the summer circuit.

Brant Melancon OF / LHP / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2024

Melancon came away a winner out of our All-State Games last fall, after a good showing both as a pitcher and as an outfielder.  Offensively, he presents a smooth left-handed stroke and gets on plane early and stays through the ball with slightly uphill extension.  He impressed with his ability to not only hit the ball the other way, but to drive the ball to the opposite field gap with controlled aggression.  On the mound, is where the sophomore southpaw made the biggest impact this spring, as he was named a 1st Team All District 7-3A Pitcher.

Brennan Eager LHP / 1B / West Monroe, LA / 2024

The Rebels won their first state in over 20 years this spring and a big reason for their success was the emergence of Eager as a dude on the mound.  The uncommitted southpaw started the semifinal round game against Dutchtown, but was pulled after only 40 pitches, after West Monroe went down 5-0, before eventually coming back to beat the Griffins to advance.  Two days later, in the state championship game against St. Amant, West Monroe called upon Eager to take the ball in relief with the Rebels down yet again and completely shut down the Gators offense.  Eager attacked hitters with a 83-85 mph FB, on route to earning the state championship game MVP award.
