Prep Baseball Report Louisiana was in attendance for Team Louisiana’s pre-season workout on January 4th. It was an impressive overall group with nearly one hundred players in attendance. Here we take a look at five players that really stood out during Sunday’s workout.

Aaron George, RHP, 2016, Ouachita Christian HS
The 6-foot-5, 200-pound uncommitted right-hander showed well pitching at 83-84 mph. Big bodied frame with present strength that creates outstanding tilt and angle to the pitch. Clean arm action with deception in the delivery created by the lead arm hiding the release point. He flashed a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape that spins well and has quality depth.

Jake Cochran, INF/OF, 2015, Sam Houston HS
A 5-foot-11, 160-pound left-handed hitting McNeese State signee. Cochran showed quality actions, athleticism and arm strength in infield work. Also showed a short, compact stroke with advanced rhythm and tempo while putting several quality swings on balls during game action.

Cameron Sanders, RHP, 2015, ED White HS
A 6-foot-2, 160-pound uncommitted right-hander with a long, lean and wiry frame. Loose, whippy and clean arm action out of a high-3/4 release. Fastball has good tilt and angle with some late life at 84-86 mph. Breaking ball is a quality pitch with 10/4 shape, tight spin, quality depth and deception. He also flashed a quality changeup with good arm speed and late life. Velocity should increase as he gets stronger, temperatures were in the 40s and it is very early in the season. I expect him to make some noise pitching for ED White HS this spring.

Jake Slaughter, SS, 2016, Ouachita Christian
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Louisiana State commit looked like he bulked up over the last few months. The frame has present strength and suggests he is already a college player to the eye. Even with the added size he maintained athleticism, running the 60 in 6.8 seconds. He also displayed outstanding feet and hands during infield work with a loose, effortless arm across the diamond. Made several different types of plays look routine during the game portion of workout. Also showed an increase in bat speed and strength as a hitter taking some good swings on balls, but still looked a little rusty.

Peyton Johnson, 3B/RHP, 2017, Sam Houston HS
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound uncommitted infielder and right-handed pitcher showed well at the workout. On the mound he pitched 80-82 mph with a clean, fast arm out of a high-3/4 release. Showed a good feel for a breaking ball with 11/5 shape, tight spin and depth at 70-71. Left-handed hitter with an advanced feel for hitting. Smooth, short stroke with rhythm and tempo finding the barrel often. Third base type tools, with soft hands, decent feet and enough arm strength to play the hot corner.
