On a beautiful Friday night at Alex Box Stadium on the campus of Louisiana State University the Louisiana Knights defeated Marucci Elite by a score of 8 to 7. While both programs were short a few regulars due to injury or scheduling conflict, talent was most certainly abundant.

As is usually the case, both programs played with energy and pace of play was outstanding for a high school baseball game making it a fun watch.

Quick Hits

+ Northwestern State commit, OF Tyler Smith(Covington HS) perhaps stole the show for the Louisiana Knights. The left-handed hitter went 3-for-4 including a bases clearing triple to dead center that one hopped the wall.

+ 2017 Nick Webre (Teurlings Catholic HS) showed he can hit with the best of them on Friday. In his first at-bat he took a, Blayne Enlow, 91 mph sinker down and away for a double off the left-field wall.

+ Speaking of Blayne Enlow, the LSU commit sat 88-92 mph with a sharp breaking ball at 77-80 mph and flashed a plus changeup in warm-ups at 82 mph that had hard, late bore action.

+ 2017 RHP Ma’Khail Hilliard (Central(BR) HS) was solid in his outing as well. He sat 85-87 mph but he flashed plus breaking ball with tight spin and sharp break at 77-78 mph.

+ 2016 SS Jake Slaughter (Ouachita Christian HS), a Team Louisiana staple, made an appearance for the Knights and was once again solid. He went 2-for-3 including a hard double down the left-field line and a couple RBI.

+ LSU commit, Zach Watson (West Ouachita HS) showed his plus run tool and athleticism all night stealing bases with ease. He also showed a compact right-handed stroke with solid bat speed.

+ 2016 RHP Adam Garcia, who is from Las Vegas, sat 88-91 mph with solid angle from a 6-foot-7 frame. He struggled with command, scattering it at times, and a breaking ball that has a ways to go, but he showed a live, loose arm.

+ 2016 LHP Sean Tweedy (Northlake Christian HS) sat 85-88 mph with solid life and flashed a quality changeup with fastball arm speed and late, fade action.

+ 2018 INF Jordin LaBruzza (Brother Martin HS) showed solid defensive ability throughout the night with soft hands and a quick, clean transfer. He also added a well-struck double down the left-field line.
