New Orleans Summer Open: Preview Story

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

New Orleans, LA - On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, the PBR Louisiana staff will travel to Tulane University, to hose the New Orleans Summer Open.  This event is our last open event of the summer, in Louisiana, and is set to host over 25 players, that includes some familiar names and fresh faces that we're excited to see.

EVENT HISTORY

The last time we were at Tulane University was in September of 2022 for our annual State Games event.  That event helped us identify prospects that had make significant jumps in their development, as well as new prospects, ahead of the 2023 high school baseball season.  Prospects such as 2025 OF Noah Lewis (Catholic BR HS) made a name for himself at last fall's State Games by running a 6.57 laser-timed 60 yard dash and recording a max exit velocity of 90 mph.  Lewis ended up being the Bears leadoff hitter by season's end and he'll be joining us at the end of July, at the Future Games, as well.  A prospect that continued to show well on the mound was 2025 RHP Andrew Ferguson (West Monroe HS), who ran his FB up to 85 mph, while showing the ability to throw 4 pitches for a strike in any count.  The former Future Gamer was the Rebels ace on the mound this past spring, finishing with a 10-1 overall record.

LOOKING AHEAD TO TUESDAY

There's a handful of players headed to Tulane on Tuesday who we've seen before and are excited to get an up-to-date look at, as well as a couple of new faces.  Let's check out a couple of those players below.

+2025 OF/3B Gabe Greene (Dunham HS)

Athletic 5'11" 165 lbs. frame.  Greene had a successful sophomore campaign for the Tigers, which earned him a 1st Team All-District selection.  A left-handed hitter, Greene hits from a wider stance and uses a toe-tap load and stride, before delivering a direct path to the ball with a strong top hand and slightly uphill extension with a two-handed finish that produced a max exit velocity of 91 mph the last time that we saw him back in January.  He's also a good overall athlete with a 7.26 laser-timed 60 yard dash.

+ 2025 LHP Bryce Wilson (Chalmette HS)

The 6'0" 150 lbs. southpaw was the Owls go-to guy this past spring on the mound, and we're excited to get to see him again on Tuesday.  We last saw the Chalmette HS product at our Baton Rouge Preseason ID, in January, and he had a solid showing.  Wilson works through a slower and controlled delivery that he repeats with little effort, and releases the ball from a 3/4 slot.  His FB sat 82-83 mph on that day with arm-side sink and good life through the zone with spin rates up to 2374 RPM's.  He flashed a 70-71 mph CB with short lateral break and also showed feel for a quality 74-76 mph CH with late fade.
