PBR Future Games - Day 2 Review

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

Gameplay began for all teams on Day 2 of the PBR Future Games.  Our Louisiana squad took on Team Missouri at 5 PM EST on Field 11.  With a packed house full of college coaches, we came our victorious by a score of 8-2.  Pitchers, for the most part, pounded the zone and worked ahead of hitters all evening.  Our offense came out aggressive and stayed on the barrel the entire game against several really good arms for Team Missouri.  Below, is a recap of the game and some of the standout performers.  Be sure to follow us on social media for updates, as we take on Team Arkansas today at 2:45 PM EST on Field 11.

-2023 OF Griffin Cooley (Kinder HS):  Cooley was the one guy that we "picked to click" at the Future Games and he did not disappoint Game 1.  In his 2nd at bat, he hit an opposite field ground rule double and in his 3rd at bat, he took a fastball up in the zone out to RF for a home run.  Cooley finished the day 2-3 with a 2B, HR, and 3 RBI.  He also made a nice sliding catch in RF, showing off his range in the outfield.  For his efforts, Cooley was named the Dick's Sporting Goods Player of the Game and has definitely seen his stock soar.

-2023 RHP Giancarlo Arencibia (Rummel HS):  One of the standout performers at our Top Prospect Games in June; Arencibia came in to the game in a tough spot in the 2nd inning with runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out.  The 2024 prospect out of Rummel HS recorded back to back K's to end the Missouri threat, in what would be a big momentum shift.  Primarily working off of his 83-86 mph FB, Arencibia challenged hitters all afternoon, working ahead, and was able to keep the ball down in the zone.

-2023 RHP Hayden Robinson (Berwick HS):  Robinson came in to close the game in the 7th inning for us yesterday and was really, really good.  Athletic delivery with a loose and easy arm action; Robinson worked his FB up to 87 mph, sitting 85-88 mph.  He also showed aptitude and feel for spin with a big, near "12-6" shaped breaking ball at 71-74 mph.  The good news for Robinson, is he will get to throw again against Team Texas on Saturday 07/31/21 at 2:45 PM.

-2024 John Pearson (West Monroe HS):  Pearson kicked the 2020 Jr. Future Games off with a HR on the first pitch that he saw and almost did the same thing yesterday, just missing a HR to RCF, in what turned out to be a double.  Pearson's blistered a ball right at the second basemen in a later at bat, however, it was his last at bat that may have been the most impressive.  He just got just underneath a pitch on the outside corner and popped it up to RF.  The RF for Team Missouri lost the ball in the air and when most kids would've been standing on second base; Pearson ended up sliding into third base because he busted it out of the box immediately.
