PBR Louisiana Diamond Notes (Week 1)

Our Week 1 Edition of Diamond Notes is here, as we highlight some of the top performances, from across the state in Week 1 (02/20/23-02/25/23), as well as our Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.  To submit your player(s) for next week's edition of Diamond Notes, please email Alex Armand ([email protected]) with the player's name, class, position, and any relevant statistics from the week.  We are fired up for what's in store in Week 2 and the rest of the season!

 

Player of the Week

Alex Dupuy SS / RHP / Natchitoches Central , LA / 2023

During Week 1's action, Dupuy had an offensive explosion, that led to the Chiefs finishing the week 3-1 and moving into our Power 25 Rankings at the #24 spot.  He collected 5 hits in 12 at-bats in Week 1 with 3 HR and 9 RBI.  The LSU-Eunice recruit also excelled on the mound as well by tossing two innings, while giving up 0 hits and 0 earned runs with 5 strikeouts.  

 

Pitcher of the Week

Jake Brown LHP / OF / Sulphur, LA / 2023

Other Top Performers

Grayden Harris LHP / OF / Central, LA / 2024

The Southern Mississippi recruit got the ball on opening day, in what turned out to be a pitcher's duel.  He earned a no-decision, but the Wildcats ended up beating Mandeville 2-1 in 8 innings. Harris threw 6 no-hit innings of baseball, while recording 10 strikeouts. 

Aidan Grab RHP / 3B / Mandeville, LA / 2024

The former Future Gamer squared off against Grayden Harris and Central BR and turned in a brilliant performance for the Skippers.  Grab earned the no-decision, while going 7 innings and giving up only 1 hit and 0 earned runs with 7 strikeouts.  Look for the University of Louisiana recruit to continue to lead the Mandeville staff this spring. 

Luke Roger MIF / RHP / Carencro, LA / 2024

The junior two-way prospect turned in a stellar week, both on the mound and at the plate for the Bears.  He ended the week hitting .438 with 1 homerun, 2 doubles, and 6 runs batted in.  On the mound, Roger earned a win, while going 4 innings giving up 1 hit with 4 strikeouts. 

Clayton Pourciau C / 1B / Catholic(BR), LA / 2023

A University of Louisiana recruit and one of the Bears vocal leaders, Pourciau had a great first week of action to kick off his senior campaign.  At the plate, he finished with 6 hits in 9 at-bats (.667 AVG) to go along with 3 doubles.  He logged 24 innings behind the dish and threw out two would be base stealers as well. 

Prescott Marsh 1B / LHP / Catholic (BR), LA / 2023

Last season's District MVP got off to a hot start to the 2023 season.  The Loyola-New Orleans recruit collected 7 hits in 15 at-bats (.467 AVG) with a double and 3 runs batted in.  Marsh also excelled on the mound, where he collected his first win of the spring after tossing 5 shutout innings, giving up 2 hits with 2 strikeouts. 

Bryson Pierce LHP / OF / Benton, LA / 2024

Pierce got the ball for our Week 1 Game of the Week against defending 5A State Champion West Monroe and he turned in a stellar outing.  The Louisiana Tech recruit went 5 1/3 innings giving up only 2 hits, 2 runs, and 0 earned runs with 7 strikeouts, as the Tigers defeated the Rebels by a score of 7-2.  

Ian Edwards RHP / SS / Covington, LA / 2024

Edwards started off his junior campaign by tossing 5 innings of no-hit baseball against East Ascension.  He finished the outing off with 11 strikeouts and only 2 walks, as Covington starts the season off with a perfect 5-0 record. 

Cooper Smith C / 1B / Live Oak, LA / 2025

Smith has been a Top 10 player in the state's 2025 class since he stepped foot on campus last season as a freshman.  The Louisiana Tech recruit and former Jr. Future Gamer had a fantastic start to his sophomore campaign last week.  He finished the week going 4-11 (.364) with 2 homeruns, a double, 3 walks, and 10 runs batted in. 

Dylan Marionneaux RHP / Zachary, LA / 2023

The Broncos ace got off to a hot start last week by recording 2 wins against Ponchatoula and East Ascension.  The uncommitted right-handed hurler threw 12 innings and gave up a combined 4 hits and 1 earned run with 13 strikeouts. 

 

 

 

Kash Martin SS / RHP / Westlake, LA / 2025

The uncommitted sophomore led the Rams offensively during opening week, as he went 8 for 11 (.727) with 2 home runs and 2 doubles, while scoring 10 runs and driving in 5.  Martin also recorded a win on the mound in two innings of relief
