PBR LOUISIANA POWER 25

The Louisiana high school baseball season kicked off on February 20, opening day for regular season action under LHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we published our team previews ahead of the 2023 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official PBR Louisiana Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Since Opening Day, our scouts have been out and about covering the 2023 season and have been publishing scout blogs and additional in-season content along the way, like Power 25 updates, Player of the Week awards, and more.

The Top 5

There has been little movement within the Top 5 of our rankings again this week.  Barbe remains at #1, after going 3-0 last week, with two wins over Southside and a win over Comeaux.  Sam Houston holds on to the #2 spot after two district wins over Carencro, in addition to a win over North Vermilion and Holy Savior Menard.  West Monroe moves up one spot to #3 this week, after going 3-0 with a win over Neville and two ten-rule district wins over West Ouachita.  Catholic BR moves down one spot to #4, after a 3-1 finish to last week with a win over Pope John Paul II and winning the first two games of a 3 game series against Mandeville.  Sulphur stays at the #5 spot this week after going 5-0 last week, with a district win over Carencro and four non-district wins over Rosepine, St. Amant, Dutchtown, and East Ascension.

Risers

+ Alexandria moves into the Top 10 for the first time this season, after making their Power 25 debut last week.  The Trojans went 3-0 last week, after beating DeRidder and Ouachita twice.

+ Brother Martin also moves into the Top 10 for the first time this season as well.  The Crusaders have won seven straight and went 3-0 last week with a district sweep of John Curtis Christian and another win over St. Paul's.

+ St. Louis Catholic has been one of the hottest teams in the state with ten straight wins.  The Saints went 3-0 last week with all three wins being district victories over Kinder, South Beauregard, and Westlake.

+ North Vermilion enters into our Power 25 Rankings this week, after improving their overall record to 16-4.  The Patriots went 3-1 last week with wins over Lafayette Christian, Berwick, and David Thibodaux, and their lone loss came at the hands at #2 Sam Houston in a close 4-1 ball game.
