PBR LOUISIANA POWER 25

The Louisiana high school baseball season kicked off on February 20, opening day for regular season action under LHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we published our team previews ahead of the 2023 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official PBR Louisiana Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Since Opening Day, our scouts have been out and about covering the 2023 season and have been publishing scout blogs and additional in-season content along the way, like Power 25 updates, Player of the Week awards, and more.

The Top 5

For the first time in a couple of weeks, there is a little shake-up inside the Top 5 of our Power 25 Rankings.  Barbe leads the way again after going 5-0 last week with district wins over Comeaux and New Iberia, as well as a doubleheader sweep of Elizabeth.  Sulphur jumps up to the #2 after going 3-0 last week with wins over Carencro and Acadiana.  The Tors will meet up with their district rival Barbe on Saturday, in what will be a mega-matchup, as we could see the state's top ranked senior in Jake Brown (LSU signee) face off with the state's top ranked junior in Landon Victorian (LSU commit)Sam Houston drops one spot to #3 this week, after beating Alexandria in a non-district matchup and splitting their district series with Southside.  Catholic BR remains at #4 after beating Liberty in the mid-week, before an impressive three game series sweep over district rival Central BR.  2024 RHP William Schmidt (Mississippi State commit) tossed a complete-game no-hitter in Game 2 vs. the Wildcats.  West Monroe checks in at #5 after sweeping Ouachita in a district series and falling to Ouachita Christian in their mid-week game.

Risers

+ Brother Martin moves into the Top 10 for the first time this season.  The Crusaders have won 9 straight games and swept their district series against St. Augustine last week.  2025 Ryan Darrah went 6-6 at the plate in those two contests with a 2B, 3B, 6 R, and 2 RBI.

+ Jesuit also moves into the Top 10 for the first time this season as well.  The Blue Jays have won their last 6 straight that included a big 3-0 win over St. Charles last week.

+ Covington looks to have regained their form after going 3-0 last week with district wins over Fontainebleau, St. Paul's, and Hammond.  The Lions move up ten spots to #15 in this update.

+ St. Amant scuffled a bit early in the season after starting in the Top 10 of our Power 25 Rankings.  Much like last season, the Gators have been playing well recently, as they've reeled off 6 straight wins to improve their overall record to 19-7.
