PBR LOUISIANA POWER 25

The Louisiana high school baseball season kicked off on February 20, opening day for regular season action under LHSAA regulations. Leading up to opening day, we published our team previews ahead of the 2023 spring season, touching on programs spanning all state classifications, counting down through the official PBR Louisiana Preseason Power 25 Rankings.

Since Opening Day, our scouts have been out and about covering the 2023 season and have been publishing scout blogs and additional in-season content along the way, like Power 25 updates, Player of the Week awards, and more.

The Top 5

The 5 teams that began this season in the Top 5 of our Power 25 Rankings have now ended the season in the Top 5.  It's been pretty evident, all season long, that these 5 teams are the "cream of the crop" for Louisiana high school baseball in 2023.  Barbe remains at #1 again for the 7th consecutive week.  The Bucs end the regular season on a 14 game winning streak, with wins over Sulphur and a two-game sweep of Acadiana, to win another 3-5A District Title.  Catholic BR comes in at #2, riding an 11 game winning streak.  The Bears beat Zachary twice last week, in addition to defeating St. Augustine and Scotlandville.  West Monroe finishes the regular season at #3 in our Power 25 Rankings, after a district sweep of Ruston last week.  Sulphur checks in at #4 this week with an overall record of 28-4.  The Tors fell to Barbe last week, but rebounded in a big way, by sweeping their two game set against Sam Houston.  Speaking of the Broncos, Sam Houston rounds out our Top 5 to finish the regular season.  The Broncos defeated New Iberia twice last week, before losing to Sulphur twice to finish district play.  

 

Risers

+ St. Amant has been playing really good baseball down the home stretch of the regular season and are back in the Top 10 of our Power 25 Rankings, for the first time since our first release this spring.  The Gators have won 5 straight and went 4-0 last week with wins over Walker twice, Ascension Christian, and Live Oak.  

 

+ St Charles has been a steady riser in our Power 25 Rankings and they check in at #11 this week.  The Comets have won 8 straight games and went 2-0 last week with a big win over Rummel.  

 

+ Eunice makes their Power 25 debut this week at #21.  The Bobcats are on a 10 game winning streak and went 5-0 last week with district sweeps of LaGrange and Leesville. 

 

+ St. Thomas More has undoubtedly played one of the tougher schedules in the state this spring, and make their way back into our Power 25 this week at #22.  The Cougars ten-run ruled Teurlings Catholic last week, before taking two of three games against North Vermilion.
