2025 SS Brock Davis (Live Oak HS)

The Eagles have plenty of young prospects and 2025 SS Brock Davis is one that we had heard a lot about going into last Thursday's matchup with Brother Martin HS.  The first thing that sticks out with Davis, is the way that he carries himself on the field, which is more like a 3 year varsity starter and not a freshman.  Defensively, he showed advanced actions and soft hands and developing arm strength that will continue to increase as he matures and adds strength.  At the plate, Davis went without a hit on the day, but still put together a couple of really good at-bats, both with two strikes.  He lined out hard right at the left fielder in one at-bat and then, late in the game with runners in scoring position and two outs, Davis hit a hard groundball that the shortstop misplayed, which led to the Eagles taking the lead and eventually winning the game.

2025 C Cooper Smith (Live Oak HS)

Smith is a familiar name in the 2025 class and a two-time Junior Future Gamer, who currently sits at #6 in the state rankings.  In this look, against Brother Martin, Smith's frame was noticeably more physical since we last saw him this fall.  The freshman didn't collect a hit against the Crusaders, but had a couple of quality at-bats, hitting the ball hard right at the third baseman in one at-bat and then lining out to the left fielder in another.

2022 LHP Tanner Roberts (Live Oak HS)

A big reason why Live Oak has started off the year with a 12-2 record is because of the quality outings that Roberts has been able to put together and this one was no different.  The University of Louisiana-Monroe signee earned the win, by tossing a complete game shutout, giving up six hits, while striking out ten.  There's definitely some "funk" to his delivery, which causes deception.  He worked 82-87 mph with his FB, adding and subtracting in different counts, to disrupt hitters timing.  He was able to land his slider for strikes and swing and miss, and he was able to kill spin with his changeup, that was as good as we've seen from Roberts, with late fade.

2024 MIF/RHP Giancarlo Arencibia (Rummel HS)

Arencibia came to the 2021 Future Games as a pitcher only, but has definitely shown that he's a two-way prospect and one of the top uncommitted two-way prospects in the state's sophomore class.  In this look against St. Amant HS, Arencibia didn't collect a hit, but did stand out with his glove.  He showed confidence to make every play, backhand, forehand, bounder, etc.  There was definitely a "silkiness" to his defense, as he caught everything in rhythm with smooth actions.

2024 SS Michael Ryan (Rummel HS)

The Rummel shortstop was arguably the biggest winner coming out of our Preseason ID events, as he committed to Louisiana State University, shortly after our Southeastern Louisiana Preseason ID in Mandeville on January 8, 2022.  This was our first look at Ryan since the event and he finished the night going 1-3 at the plate with an infield single, which would signal to most that it was just an "average" night, but that definitely was not the case.  Defensively, he made several tough plays look easy, with the most impressive being a diving backhand play in the six hole, where he came up and threw a strike to first base to record an out.  On the infield single, Ryan turned in a home-time of 3.95, showing plus speed in game.  The hacks that he did get off were aggressive and Ryan ended up hitting a home run the next day.  His rare combination of power and speed, combined with the ability to stick at shortstop, makes Ryan one of the top prospects in the 2024 class in Louisiana and possibly, in the country.

+ 2022 RHP Jacob Mayers (St. Amant HS)

Every high school there are prospects who really gain steam after solid performances.  Leading up to this matchup with Rummel HS, we had heard good things about Mayers, who has grown six plus inches in the last twelve to eighteen months.  On this night, he wasn't at his best, struggling with control, but when he was in the zone, he was tough to hit.  Standing in at 6'4" with a lean and projectable frame; Mayers delivers the baseball from an over the top arm slot, striding slightly closed, which creates a tough downhill angle for hitters, especially on his fastball, which sat 86-90 mph.  His 78-82 mph slider was shaped more like a cutter and is still a developing secondary offering.  The arm talent is undeniable with Mayers, as he should continue to get close looks from college recruiters the rest of the spring.

2022 INF Lee Amedee (St. Amant HS)

A 2020 Future Gamer; Amedee has long been known for his sweet left-handed swing and he showed it off in this look against Rummel HS.  The University of Louisiana signee took quality at-bats all night, finishing 2-3 with a double, with his lone out being a fly ball caught deep in left field.  He recorded an opposite field double in another at-bat and capped the night off with a really good two strike single to centerfield on a breaking ball down and away.

2023 RHP Dallis Moran (St. Amant HS)

We saw Moran last year at this time and the strides and jumps that he's made since then, were definitely noticeable.  His lean and wiry frame has started to fill out, which was evident by the velocity on his fastball.  The Nicholls State University commit came in relief of Mayers and sat 85-89 mph with his fastball, pounding the zone with a true four pitch mix.  Moran flipped an "11-5" shaped 70-72 mph curveball for strikes early in counts and went to a hard and sharp 74-77 mph slider for swing and miss with two strikes.  He also was able to kill spin a couple of times with a quality 76-78 mph changeup that he was able to land against left-handed and right-handed hitters.  Moran earned the win for the Gators and if he can continue to produce outings like this one, it certainly gives St. Amant a real chance at making a deep post-season run come May.
