On Saturday January 7, pitching prospects from all across the state of Louisiana participated in the Pitcher Showcase and Analysis at The Kastle in Mandeville, LA. Today we will share some of the top velocities of the day, as well as some instant reaction from the event. In the coming days, we will have complete analysis from all the pitchers in attendance with full scouting reports, video, etc.

Best Fastball Velocity

89 – Jacob Hammond, RHP, Ouachita, 2018
86 – Thomas Wilhite, RHP, West Ouachita, 2019
86 – Christian Carter, RHP, Denham Springs, 2017

+ 2018 RHP Jacob Hammond (Ouachita HS) was the first to toe the rubber at the event, and even though its extremely early in the year, the physical right-hander brought a good fastball. Hammond sat 87-88 mph touching 89 mph throughout his extended bullpen session, showing solid ability to throw strikes with angle and heaviness to his fastball. On occasion, Hammond spun a tight-spinning breaking ball  with 11/5 shape, depth and bite ranging from 73-77 mph.

+ 2019 RHP Thomas Wilhite (West Ouachita HS) came into the event as a relative unknown, which will certainly change in the coming weeks and months. The young right-hander has a 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame, athletic build, strong lower half, with projection left. He repeats his delivery extremely well with tempo and rhythm throughout, short arm action, and quick arm speed. He sat 84-86 mph with his fastball, flashing a two-seamer with sinking action, and poured in an abundance of strikes with three pitches.

+ Unsigned 2017 RHP Christian Carter (Denham Springs HS) should provide a big boost, to an already talented, Denham Springs club this spring. The 6-foot-2, 235-pound right-hander sat 84-86 mph with his fastball, showing life in the zone, and solid ability to control the pitch. Being early in January, the breaking ball was inconsistent, but when landed it showed 11/5 shape with depth, and sharp break at 68-71 mph.

+ 2019 LHP Amani Gilmore (Hammond HS) is new to the position, but it is hard to tell. He showed an extremely athletic delivery, loose, easy arm action, and quick arm speed out of a 6-foot-3, 185-pound frame with an athletic build, long levers, high backside, and projection. He sat 82-84 mph with his fastball that showed quality angle and deception when thrown in the strike zone.
