The 2017 high school season is in full swing, and Prep Baseball Report Louisiana has updated its Power 25 team rankings.

+ Barbe holds steady at the No. 1 overall spot, as they have jumped out to an impressive 13-1 start. The three-time defending class 5A state champions are outscoring opponents 104 to 15 thus far this year.

+ West Monroe checks in at No. 2 behind the Barbe Bucs. Led by Louisiana State recruit, OF Jacob Pearson, the Rebels have perhaps the most explosive lineup in the state of Louisiana. Prep Baseball Report Louisiana, was on-hand this past weekend with The Rode Show, and the Rebels did not disappoint. Hinds CC recruit, RHP Austin Booth, gives the Rebels a solid number 1 starter, and 2019 RHP Tom Biggs could emerge as an impact arm as the season progresses, which could make the Rebels a favorite when the playoffs roll around.

+ John Curtis climbs to No. 3 after a 9-3 start. Another explosive offense, the Patriots are averaging 7 runs a game early in the season. The Patriots are hitting at an impressive .339 clip as a team, with serious firepower in the middle of the order in 2018 C Jay Curtis, who is hitting .378 thus far, and Tulane recruit, 2018 1B Cade Beloso, who is hitting an eye-opening .552 12 games into to 2017.

+ Sulphur and Sam Houston check in at No.’s 4 and 6, respectively, giving the vaunted district 3-5A three teams in the top six of the Power 25. New Sulphur head coach, Jesse Cassard, has led the Tors to an 11-5 start. While, new Sam Houston head coach, Chad Hebert, has Sam Houston playing quality baseball, sitting at 12-3.

+ Jesuit, St. Michael’s and ED White all make jumps into the top ten of the Power 25, after outstanding starts to the 2017 season.

It’s an exciting time of year if you are a Louisiana high school baseball fan, as teams are starting to come into their own as district play around the state is nearly set to begin. There will surely be upsets, surprises and exciting moments to come, on the way to see who will be crowned district and state champions. To see the complete updated Power 25, click HERE.

As well, the summer is fast approaching and space is already filling fast for PBR-Louisiana summer events. On May 20, the Underclass Trials will take place in Hammond, LA for 2019 and 2020 graduates. This event will serve as an identifier for the prestigious invite only PBR Future Games, as well as, the invite only Underclass Games at Tulane University. To register for the Underclass Trials, click HERE. In addition, on June 13, PBR-Louisiana will host the annual invite only, Top Prospect Games at Nicholls State University.
