Pre-Season All-State Games: Quick Hits

On Saturday, November 7, more than 50 players from across the state of Louisiana in the ’16-‘18 classes participated in the Prep Baseball Report Preseason All-State Games at Louisiana State University.

Over the past few days we have released the Stats Breakdown of the event, which can be viewed HERE.

As the PBR scouting staff is hard at work reviewing each player’s performance, writing scouting reports and uploading data into the vast player scouting database of PBR, we will look at a few quick hits on standout players from the event that made significant noise.

Quick Hits

+ Landon Marceaux, RHP, Destrehan HS(2018)
The 6-foot, LSU commit was nothing short of dominate in his outing on Saturday. He showed a clean, easy delivery with a quick arm and a fastball that sat 87-89 mph with life and advanced command. Showed tight spinning curveball and slider with feel, depth and command. In addition, showed an extremely advanced feel for changeup for a high school sophomore.

+ Ma’Khail Hilliard, RHP, Central(BR) HS(2017)
The lean, athletic 6-foot righty was outstanding on the day. Showed a fastball that sat 86-88 mph with plus life with hard, late cutting action. Also showed quality secondary stuff with tight spinning slider that had depth and sharp, late break.

+ Jake Slaughter, SS, Ouachita Christian HS(2016)
The 6-foot-2, 198-pound shortstop showed his improved foot speed and athleticism by posting a 6.66 60 yard dash. In addition, Slaughter continues to show he can hit with the best of them, hammering several balls in live game action against quality arms, as well as posting an eye opening 97 mph exit velocity.

+ Michael Kirsch, INF, Brother Martin HS(2016)
A rather unknown commodity, the 6-foot-1 Tulane commit bursted onto the scene Saturday in front of dozens of professional scouts by posting an impressive 6.51 60 yard dash. He also had a solid round of batting practice, had quality ABs in live game action, and posted a 96 mph exit velocity.

+ Keelyn Johnson, C, Pineville HS(2016)
The recent LSU commit has been gaining major steam this fall and he did nothing but help himself on Saturday. He cemented himself as the premier catch and throw guy in Louisiana’s 2016 class with a pop time of 1.8 seconds, and an effortless, quick transfer. In addition, he showed a loose swing with bat speed and strength posting an exit velocity of 92 mph.
