Prospect ID Showcase: Quick Hits

On Monday, Sept. 7, more than 80 players from across the state of Louisiana in the 2016-2019 classes participated in the Prep Baseball Report Prospect ID Showcase at St. Thomas Acquinas HS in Hammond, LA.

As the PBR scouting staff is hard at work reviewing each player???s performance, writing scouting reports and uploading data into the vast player scouting database of PBR, we will look at a few quick hits on standout players from the event that made significant noise.

+ 2017 RHP Blayne Enlow(St. Amant HS), a Louisiana State recruit, was crisp again on Monday just reaffirming his status as a top 10 prospect in PBR???s 2017 Overall Rankings. The 6-foot-3 righty sat 89-91 mph with little effort, late life and continued to show advanced command of the fastball. To add to the fastball, he continues to show a plus breaking ball with tight spin, depth and command at 77-79 mph.

+ 2016 Texas recruit, Ryan Reynolds (Ouachita Christian HS), had perhaps one of the loudest rounds of batting practice the PBR Louisiana staff has seen all summer. The physical, 6-foot-2 infielder hits with power from both sides of the plate, posting a 92 mph exit velocity with wood as a left-handed hitter and a right-handed hitter. The highlight of the day came during his right-handed round of on-field batting practice when he launched a towering home run over the left-field wall that nearly landed in the football stadium about 150 feet past the outfield wall.

+ RHP Aaron George (Ouachita Christian HS), who is uncommitted and a high school teammate of Reynolds (as well as the state's No. 1 2016 Jake Slaughter) really helped himself on Monday. The recruiting scene had been rather quiet for George all summer, as the right-hander???s velocity had been down a few ticks. However, on Monday the physical senior???s first pitch out the gate was a blazing 91 mph fastball with quality angle and life. To add to it, George spun a plus breaking ball at 77-80 mph with tight spin and depth.

+ 2017 OF Stephen Sepcich (Jesuit HS), a Tulane recruit, showed why he is one of the top prospects in the 2017 class. The physical 6-foot-2, 190-pound outfielder posted an impressive 89 mph positional velocity from the outfield, as well as posting a 90 mph exit velocity showing the raw strength he provides in the batter???s box.

+ Sepcich???s high school teammate, Nick Ray (Jesuit HS), who is a relatively unknown commodity outside of the small circle of the New Orleans area high school baseball scene, showed why some people in the area have been raving about his athleticism for years. Standing at an athletic 6-foot-2, Ray ran a 6.8-second 60, posted an 81 mph positional velocity from the infield, and had an exit velocity of 89 mph. He also had one of the better rounds of batting practice, hitting hard line drives and occasionally creating quality backspin.

+ 2016 LHP Sean Tweedy (Northlake Christian HS), who is uncommitted, was another prospect that really helped himself on Monday. The unsigned senior sat 85-88 mph touching 89 mph out of a mid-3/4 release with life and solid command. He also flashed a quality slurve at 73-74 mph with quality spin and depth. Expect Tweedy to not remain on the open market long if he can build on the success he had Monday during his fall schedule with the Louisiana Knights.
