Quick Hits - Northern Louisiana Open

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

On June 22, 2022 we hosted the Northern Louisiana Open at the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The open event featured prospects from all high school classes. Our day started out started out with players running the 60 yard dash and participating in defensive work, followed by batting practice, and ended with bullpens.  Below, we take a look at a few of the top performers from last Wednesday in another edition of "Quick Hits".

+ STAT LEADERBOARDS

Quick Hits

Hudson Brignac 2B / SS / Benton , LA / 2024

Athletic 5'10" 145 lbs. frame with room to continue to add strength as he matures.  The uncommitted prospect out of Benton had one of the better overall days for an infielder last Wednesday.  Brignac showed above average speed, as he posted a 6.89 in the 60, which was good for second best on the day.  On the dirt, he flashed soft hands and athletic footwork with a quick release and posted an 80 mph positional velocity.  Offensively, Brignac showed a lot of twitch in his swing with some barrel whip and recorded a max exit velocity of 90 mph.

Barnes Williamson OF / OF / Riverfield, LA / 2023

Physical 6'3" 205 lbs. frame; Williamson is a guy that we've seen at several of our past events and was able to put together his best showing on this day.  He posted an event best 6.84 in the 60, showing that he can move for a more physical prospect.  He also flashed a big time arm from the OF, posting an event best 91 mph velocity.  At the plate, Williamson starts in a taller stance with his hands held at shoulder height and the bat head laid back.  Took aggressive cuts during BP showing present pull-side power.  Still uncommitted, the Riverfield prospect is a good one for college recruiters to watch moving forward.

Andrew Ferguson RHP / OF / West Monroe, LA / 2025

6'1" 160 lbs. lean frame with long limbs and plenty of room to continue to add strength.  Ferguson was stellar for the 5A State Champs this past spring, after going 9-1 on the mound as a freshman.  The uncommitted prospect is a "throwback" style pitcher, who really understands how to pitch.  He worked 81-83 mph with his FB, and showed glove side command with his 4-Seamer and arm-side sink and run on his 2-Seamer.  Ferguson also showed excellent feel for his CH and his 73-75 mph SL looks to have improved from our last look in the spring.  Look for Ferguson to continue to increase his stock as he continues to add strength, which will result in bumps in his velocity.

Colin Rains OF / 2B / Haughton , LA / 2023

We first saw the uncommitted outfielder from Haughton last summer, and he had another good showing on Wednesday.  Physical and athletic 6'2" 195 lbs. frame; Rains is also a standout on the football field as a quarterback.  A good overall athlete, he started his day off with a 6.93 in the 60.  Took aggressive routes in the outfield, played through the baseball well and showed good arm strength by recording an 89 mph positional velocity.  During BP, he worked gap to gap and showed the ability to the ball to the opposite field and posted a max exit velocity 98 mph.

Ryder DeJean C / 3B / West Monroe, LA / 2026

5'11" 165 lbs. frame with present lower half strength.  DeJean was one of the younger participants on the day.  At the plate, he started in a balanced and athletic stance, before delivering the bat head straight to the ball with slightly uphill extension.  Showed pull-side power in the BP with more to come.  Behind the dish, he stayed in the 2.06-2.19 range on his pop times to 2B with a 71 mph positional velocity, which was good for second best on th day.  DeJean comes from a baseball family, so it's safe to assume that he'll be a guy to watch moving forward in Louisiana's 2026 class.
