Quick Hits: Lake Charles Summer Open

Lake Charles, LA - Our first open event of the summer was held this past Sunday May 21, 2023 at Barbe High School.  This series of events is for prospects in the 2024-2026 classes and serves as an identifier for our invite-only events such as the State Games and the Future Games.  Today, we continue our post-event coverage of the event with another edition of of Quick Hits.  This piece focuses on some of the prospects that caught our eye.  Be sure to follow us, on all of our social media platforms, for continued coverage of the Lake Charles Summer Open!

 

+2026 LHP Lucas Lawrence (Catholic BR HS)

Long, lean, and super projectable 6'3" 160 lbs. frame with a ton of room to add strength.  Lawrence is a former two-time Jr. Future Gamer who we had the opportunity to see this past weekend at our Lake Charles Summer Open and he showed that he's made another jump since last summer.  The frame projects and his arm stroke is long and loose.  Lawrence worked his FB up to 82 mph, sitting at 80-81 mph, while mixing in a "2-8" shaped 69-71 mph breaking ball at 2350-2450 RPM's with equal parts of lateral break and depth.  The interesting data point for the freshman southpaw was his 7 ft. plus extension via Trackman on his FB.  His 80-82 mph looked more like 84-85 mph with good downward tilt and life.  We've seen plenty of arms with Lawrence's profile develop into "dudes" and he looks to be the next in line at Catholic BR HS.  

 

+ 2025 OF/RHP Davis Emonet (Catholic BR HS)

Athletic and wiry 6'1" 160 lbs. frame that will continue to add strength as he matures.  We've had the opportunity to see the Catholic BR product a few times since he entered high school and he continues to show well with each look.  A really good runner, Emonet posted a 6.89 laser timed 60 on Sunday, and has been as a low as a 6.74 just this past fall at our State Games.  He's also got a good arm from the OF with a 84 mph positional velocity and there's likely more arm strength on the way.  At the plate, he starts in an athletic and balanced legs and shifts his weight back using a knee to knee load and stride.  There's a little length to the swing, but he stays flat to contact and through extension, while showing some juice to the pull-side.  Catholic BR always produces really good prospects and Emonet is one worth keeping an eye on moving forward.

 

+ 2025 UTIL/RHP Michael Peavy (St. Pius HS, TX)

Failing from St. Pius HS across the state border in Texas, Peavy showed up on Sunday and showed well in nearly everything that he did.  At the plate, he starts in a tall and slightly open stance with his hands held above shoulder height, before using a simple load and stride, while bringing his hands back down before launch.  Peavy delivered a heavy barrel to contact with really nice uphill extension and a two-handed finish.  He took arguably the best BP round of the day with consistent hard contact to the middle of the field and pull-side gap.  From the crouch, he received the ball really well during bullpens and blocked well too.  His transfers were crisp on throw downs to the bag and he recorded an event best 78 mph positional velocity and a sub 2.00 pop time.
