Senior Games: Catchers Analysis

The Senior Games took place on Saturday, September 30th, at Nicholls State University, in Thibodeaux, LA. The event saw thirty 2018 prospects perform in front of several college coaches and the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff.

The Senior Games was filled with top-level unsigned senior talent from the state of Louisiana. A few weeks ago, our scouting staff dove into the top statistical performers from the event with the Stats Breakdown, which you can view HERE.

Today, we dive further into the event with analysis of the catchers in attendance.

Hayden Charlet C / RHP / West Feliciana, LA / 2018

Athletic 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame, strong build. Left-handed hitter that hits from balanced, wide setup, works backwards with toe tap load, and solid balance. Right field approach with loose, rotational path, working around baseball, produced exit velocity of 85 mph. Catcher with solid hip flexibility in setup and soft hands. Long, clean transfers with in line direction on throws to second. Short high-3/4 arm action recording a positional velocity of 80 mph with a pop time range of 2.09-2.15. Ran a 7.76 60-yard dash.

Nick Harris C / RHP / The Dunham School, LA / 2018

Physical 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame. Right-handed hitter that hits from a open, tall, balanced setup. Works back with a toe tap load with some length in stride. Rotational path and solid lower half use into an uphill finish with bat speed that produced a 101 mph exit velocity. Catcher that present target well with athletic setup and soft hands receiving. Average, clean transfers with fundamental footwork on throws to second. Short high-3/4 arm action recording a positional velocity of 74 mph with a pop time range of 2.01-2.11, consistently on the bag. Ran a 7.86 60-yard dash.

Branon Pope RHP / OF / Acadiana, LA / 2018

A 5-foot-7, 165-pound catcher, outfielder and right-handed pitcher with a medium, athletic frame. Outfielder with average hands, choppy footwork, and clean, slow exchange. Short arm action into over the top release with accuracy and carry on throws that produced a positional velocity of 92 mph from outfield. Catcher with soft hands, fundamental footwork, throwing from a short high-3/4 release recording a positional velocity of 80 mph from the crouch and a pop time of 2.05-2.11. Right-handed hitter that hits from a balanced setup, smooth load, short stride, and solid balance. Line-drive type hitter with slightly uphill path, fluid rhythm and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 81 mph

Dylan Trahan C / 1B / Houma Christian , LA / 2018

An athletic 5-foot-9, 175-pound catcher with a strong build. Quality defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, and clean exchanges. Short arm action into high-3/4 release with accuracy on throws that produced a positional velocity of 75 mph and a pop time of 2.02-2.12. Right-handed hitter that hits from balanced, open setup, smooth load, and short stride. Gap to gap type hitter with smooth rhythm, a level to slightly uphill path and bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 91 mph. Also posted 7.88 60-yard dash.
