Walt Jones
Louisiana Assistant Scouting Director

Over the last few weeks the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana scouting staff has been dusting off and updating player rankings in the 2020, 2021, and 2022 classes.

The 2020 class was headlined by two-sport athlete, SS Blake Shapen (Evangel Christian Academy HS, LA) an Arizona State recruit. To see the 2020 rankings release story click HERE

The 2021 class saw Louisiana State recruit, SS Connor Simon (St. Paul’s HS, LA) hold firm atop the list, which you can view HERE.

While last week saw the release of the class of 2022 rankings, which saw Future Games standout, SS Gavin Guidry (Barbe HS, LA) claim the top spot, which you can view HERE

As we begin to enter our fall event schedule, player rankings in each class will surely see plenty of movement up and down, as more prospects emerge from across the state. In the coming days, our scouting staff plans to release the initial class of 2023 rankings. The Underclass Free Showcase is slated for this Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas, and is sure to see prospects emerge on to the recruiting scene, and find themselves on the impending list.

Even still, several prospects have already emerged in Louisiana’s 2023 class, as three have already made their verbal commitments including: (Louisiana State) LHP Kade Anderson (St. Paul’s HS, LA), (Mississippi State) C Cameran Christ (Sam Houston HS, LA) and (Tulane) LHP Michael O’Brien (John Curtis HS, LA).

In addition to the early commits, several prospects from Louisiana's 2019 Junior Future Games team created plenty of buzz with strong performances at the annual national mega-event including breakout performances from 3B/RHP Jake LaRocca (Barbe HS, LA) and RHP/OF Brandon Levy (Parkway HS, LA).

Speaking of the Junior Future Games, the Prep Baseball Report Louisiana Scouting Staff is already looking ahead to next year's event, as we begin our Junior event schedule this fall, which will help to identify top players in the 2024 and 2025 classes to be selected to represent Louisiana in next summer’s Junior Future Games, as well as, this November’s Invite Only Junior All-State Games at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

The junior event schedule kicks off on September 7th at Dunham HS with the Future Prospects Showcase, which will run in conjunction with the Upperclass Stats Day.
