Underclass Trials: Stats Breakdown

The Prep Baseball Report’s Underclass Trials for 2017 and 2018 prospects took place this past Monday at St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Hammond, LA. 32 underclass prospects completed a pro-style workout for the PBR executive director Sean Duncan and the PBR Louisiana Scouting Staff.

Let’s take a look at the statistical breakdown from this Monday's Underclass Trials.

Top Fastball Velocity
St. Amant’s 6-foot-3, 160-pound right-hander Blayne Enlow sat 85-88 mph with life and a clean, loose arm action.

Lafayette’s Miguel Reyes touched 87 mph from a physical 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame.

Catholic(BR)’s Maxwell Wagner sat 84-86 mph touching 87 mph from an imposing 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame.

Pitchability left-handers Brock Batty and Austin Perrin both showed solid arm speed and velocity with similar styles of pitching. Perrin touched 83 mph and showed an impressive three-pitch mix, highlighted by a 74-76 mph changeup with fade action creating excellent deception from a 5-foot-10, 170-pound frame. Batty has been as high as 86 mph this spring, and touched 85 on Monday with the makings of a 70-72 mph power slider and an excellent feel for a changeup all delivered from a 6-foot-1, 180-pound frame.

Chalmette HS right-hander Kobe Cazes also sat 81-83 mph with a clean, easy arm action from an athletic 6-foot, 160-pound frame.

Top 60 Times
West Monroe’s Jacob Pearson, a recent Mississippi State commit, ran a 6.50 60-yard dash, and also had an astounding exit velocity of 100 mph. To top it all off Pearson also hit numerous home runs during the live BP portion of the event.

Franklinton HS teammates Jamarian Crain and Collin Dominguez ran impressive 6.73 and 6.97 60-yard dashes, respectively.

East St. John’s CJ Turner also was impressive during the 60’s, running an effortless 6.90.

Top Exit Velocity
Jacob Pearson and Miguel Reyes both showed outstanding bat speed recording 100 mph and 95 mph exit velocities, respectively.

Scott McMurrian of Oak Grove(MS) showed a powerful swing recording a 93 mph exit velocity from a 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame.

Live Oak’s Preston Faulkner recorded an 89 mph exit velocity, while Denham Spring’s two-way standout Brock Batty logged an 87 mph exit velocity.

West Monroe OF and teammate of Pearson, Slade Bolden, also showed a lightning quick bat recording an 85 mph exit velocity.

Roderick Coffee of Central(BR), Logan Stevens of Northlake Christian, and Jay Curtis of John Curtis all had extremely impressive rounds of live BP hitting numerous home runs. As well, all three posted solid exit velocities of 82, 83, and 81 respectively.
