It’s been a busy four-plus months since the last update to the Class of 2017 rankings. As we have worked our way through the summer and fall, both on the state and national levels, more light has been shed on this talented and deepclass. There has been plenty of shakeup throughout the list, which has now been expanded to 100 players. Here are some highlights in the update...
+ An LSU recruit and Team USA standout, RHP Blayne Enlow (St. Amant) retains his No. 1 slot after a wildly successful summer and fall. 2017 OF Daniel Cabrera (Parkview Baptist) slides to the number 2 slot, over his future LSU teammate in OF Jacob Pearson (West Monroe), after Cabrera had an extremely successful weekend in Jupiter.
+ Louisiana-Lafayette recruit, SS Hayden Cantrelle (Teurlings Catholic), and LSU recruit, RHP Ma’Khail Hilliard (Central (BR)) round out the top five. Cantrelle started to gain some helium with area scouts after a solid showing at East Coast Pro. Hilliard was once again impressive at the Preseason All-State Games a week ago, where he sat 86-89 mph with a swing-and-miss slider in the low 80s.
+ One of the biggest risers in the rankings is C Cade Blanchard (Dutchtown). Blanchard burst onto the scene at the Prospect ID Showcase in September, showing off a strong arm and quick release. He followed that up with another impressive showing at the Preseason All-State Games with an 83 mph positional velocity and 1.8-second pop time.
+ Another 2017 catcher that sees a big rise in the rankings after an impressive showing at the Preseason All-State Games is Braden Doughty (No. 39). Doughty showed a solid throwing arm that posted a 78 mph positional velocity and a 1.87-second pop time.
+ There are several newcomers to the rankings including OF Xane Washington (Terrebonne), OF Ryan Williams (East Ascension), OF Joe Stevens (East Ascension), SS Jordan Szush (ED White), SS Chance Clark (South Beauregard), SS Courtland Simoneaux (Brusly), and LHP Dallin Bourgeois (St. Amant).
