Prep Baseball Louisiana: 2025 Diamond Notes (Week 1)

The Prep Baseball Louisiana Diamond Notes serves as an opportunity for our staff to highlight players, from across the state, that put up impressive performances on a given week, yet fell short of our Mizuno Player & Pitcher of the Week honors.
NOTE: These submissions were provided from high school coaches from around the state. If you are a coach and are interested in submitting a player for our weekly Player of the Week awards, please contact State Director Alex Armand at [email protected]. Our Diamond Notes will be released each Wednesday throughout the high school spring season.
Pitcher of the Week (Week 1)
Judson Funderburk RHP / SS / Calvary Baptist Academy, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 142 / POS: 36
The uncommitted right-hander had a massive Week 1 for the Cavaliers, on route to helping the team get off to a 3-2 start. Funderburk got the start on opening night against Quitman and earned the win after tossing 5 innings shutout innings, giving up only 1 hit with 0 walks and 12 strikeouts. He then turned around on Sunday and got another start against Cedar Creek and tossed 6 shutout innings, giving up only 1 hit with 2 walks and 12 strikeouts. For the week, Funderburk went 2-0 with 24 strikeouts to only 2 walks across 11 shutout innings pitched.

Player of the Week (Week 1)
Cooper Smith C / 1B / Live Oak, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 10 / POS: 2
The former Jr. Future Gamer and Louisiana Tech recruit was a big part of the Eagles 3-1 start to the 2025 season. Smith went 6-12 (.500) with 3 HR, 2B, 6 RBI, and 3 R. In Thursday's matchup against Barbe, he had arguably one of the best single game offensive performances that we've witnessed, as he belted 3 HR and had 6 RBI to lead the Eagles to the 13-1 win over the Bucs.

Alex Scheuermann LHP / 1B / St. Martin's, LA / 2026The uncommitted junior had a massive opening week for St. Martin's at the plate and on the mound. Scheuermann went 10-16 (.625) with a GS, 2 2B, 8 RBI, and 10 R, while also getting a win on Saturday after tossing 5 shutout IP giving up only 2 H with 0 BB and 10 K's. |

Dayton Hicks RHP / Sulphur, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 140 / POS: 34
The LSU-Eunice commit had two appearances on opening week and earned a save on Friday night against Live Oak. Hicks tossed 5 2/3 IP on the week and gave up 1 H with 3 BB and 10 K's. |

Dylan Navarre LHP / Loreauville, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 125 / POS: 10
The uncommitted senior turned in a really good outing against Assumption last Friday. Navarre earnd the win after tossing 5 innings and giving up 1 R, 0 ER, and 3 H with 1 BB and 7 K's. |

Gage Guidry RHP / SS / Vinton, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 99 / POS: 25
Guidry had a really nice overall week for Vinton in Week 1. On the mound, he tossed 4 shutout innings and gave up only 1 H with 10 K's against Jennings. He also went 5-11 (.455) at the plate with 4 2B and 7 RBI. |

Kortlin Kyle RHP / 3B / Vinton , LA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 200 / POS: 24
Kyle was another two-way standout for Vinton in Week 1. He tossed 6 innings against Glenmora and gave up only 3 H and 1 ER with 3 K's, while also going 8-12 (.667) at the plate with 3 RBI on the week. |

Connor Courmier C / Vinton , LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 327 / POS: 48
Courmier went 4-6 (.667) at the plate last week with 2 RBI and 4 BB. His biggest hit came against Jennings, as he delivered the game-winning 2 RBI single to seal the Vinton win over the Bulldogs.

Sawyer Pruitt RHP / Live Oak, LA / 2025The Louisiana-Lafayette recruit got the start last Thursday night against perennial power Barbe and gave the Eagles exactly the start that they were looking for. Pruitt threw 5 innings and gave up 3 H and 1 ER with 1 BB and 10 K's as the Eagles beat the Bucs by a score of 13-1. |

Kason Johnson RHP / 1B / Dutchtown , LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 57 / POS: 2
The uncommitted junior got the start on opening night against defending Select Division III State Champion University Lab and was brilliant. Johnson baffled the Cubs hitters all night long, on route to tossing a complete game one-hit shutout with 0 BB and 12 K's. |

Cade Durbin RHP / Parkview Baptist, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 11 / POS: 2
The former Future Gamer and Louisiana-Lafayette recruit got the start on opening night against defending Non-Select Division II State Champion Lutcher and was fantastic. Durbin earned the no-decision, after the game ended up going 13 innings. He tossed 5 shutout IP and gave up only 1 H with 0 BB and 7 K's. |

The uncommitted senior went 4-9 (.444) at the plate for the Tors in Week 1 with 3 2B and 3 RBI.

The Louisiana-Lafayette recruit was stellar in his first outing of the spring on opening day against Lutcher. Mitchell entered the game in the 9th and tossed 5 shutout IP with 1 BB and 11 K's to earn the win against the Bulldogs. |

Brody Trosclair LHP / Thibodaux, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 43 / POS: 12
The Northwestern State recruit tallied 16 K's across 6 IP in Week 1 and he only allowed 1 R on 3 H. Trosclair finished the week with a 1-1 record.

Jacob Tucker SS / Southside, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 80 / POS: 23
The LSU-Eunice recruit got off to a hot start in Week 1 for the Sharks. Tucker went 10-13 (.769) and had a .812 OBP with 2 2B and 8 SB.

The former Future Gamer and Louisiana-Monroe recruit picked up his first win of the season on opening against Winnfield. Allen tossed 4 innings and gave up 1 H and 1 ER with 0 BB and 12 K's.

The former Future Gamer swung the bat all week for Benton, on route to helping the Tigers get off to an undefeated start. Snell went 6-8 (.750) with a HR, 2B, 2 3B, 13 RBI, 5 R, and a SB.

Noah Lewis OF / Catholic BR, LA / 2025The former Future Gamer and Louisiana-Lafayette recruit did an excellent job out the leadoff spot for the Bears in Week 1. Lewis went 6-15 (.400) with 4 RBI and 5 R.

Andrew Clapinski C / Catholic BR, LA / 2025Rankings StateRank: 22 / POS: 3
The LSU-Eunice recruit picked up right where he left off last spring, as he swung the bat extremely well during Catholic BR's 4-0 run in Week 1. Clapinski went 7-14 (.500) with a HR, 2 2B, 3 RBI and a R. He also earned 2 saves on the mound, after tossing 2 shutout IP with 4 K's.

The LSU-Eunice recruit was another Catholic High Bear that had a good first offensive week. Emonet went 5-8 (.625) with a 2B, 5 RBI, 4R, and 2 BB.

The uncommitted junior right-hander was spectacular in relief for the Bears in Game 3. Forbes earned the win, after tossing 6 shutout IP with 2 K's.

The Southern Miss commit picked up his first win of the season last Thursday night against West Monroe in Game 1. Lawrence took a no-hitter into the fourth inning, and ended up tossing 4 2/3 IP and gave up 1 ER on 2 H with 2 BB and 4 K's. |

Blaze Duhon LHP / 1B / North Vermilion, LA / 2026Rankings StateRank: 31 / POS: 4
The uncommitted two-way standout got his junior campaign off to a good start. Duhon went 7-12 (.583) at the plate with a HR, 4 2B, 9 RBI, and 4 R. He also picked up a win on the mound against Kaplan, after tossing 3 innings and giving up only 2 H and 0 ER with 3 BB and 6 K's. |

Owen Galley RHP / 3B / Sam Houston, LA / 2027Rankings StateRank: 6 / POS: 1
Galley did a little bit of everything in Week 1, on route to helping the Broncos to a perfect 4-0 record. At the plate, he went 7-10 (.700) with 2 HR, 2 2B, 5 RBI, and 5 R. He also earned a win on the mound against Iowa, after tossing 4 2/3 innings, giving up 1 H and 1 ER with 2 BB and 6 K's.

Miller Sheets SS / RHP / Sterlington, LA / 2026Sheets was another former Future Gamer that swung a hot stick in Week 1. The Baylor commit went 7-13 (.538) with 2 2B, 1 3B, 5 RBI, and 7 R, to help the Panthers get off to a perfect 3-0 start.
