The Top 5

The Top 5 has undergone some changes after the first week of the high school season, but Catholic BR is still our #1 team, after an impressive Week 1, in which they beat St. Paul's on opening night and then swept West Monroe in a three-game series for the second consecutive year.  Seniors Noah Lewis and Andrew Clapinski were both stellar at the plate for the Bears.  Lewis went 6-15 (.400) with 4 RBI and 5 R, while Clapinski went 7-14 (.500) with a HR, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R, and 2 BB.  He also earned two saves after tossing 2 shutout IP with 4 K's.

Natchitoches Central moves up to #4, after going 2-0 last week with wins over Weston and North Desoto.  The Chiefs have a couple of interesting matchups this week with a midweek game against Alexandria Sr. High and then a Saturday tilt with Northwood who moved into the Top-10 this week.

Live Oak moves up a spot this week and rounds out the Top-5 at the #5 spot.  The Eagles went 3-1 last week which included an opening day win over John Curtis Christian, and a ten-rule victory over Barbe that was headlined by senior Cooper Smith who went 4-4 with 3 HR and 6 RBI against the Bucs.

Risers

Dutchtown moves into the Top-10 after a perfect 5-0 week.  The Griffins beat defending Select Division III State Champion University Lab on opening night, before picking up additional wins against Riverside, St. Paul's, Ascension Christian, and St. Thomas Aquinas.  Dutchtown outscored their five Week 1 opponents 57 to 8.

+ St. Thomas More was another team that made a statement in Week 1, as they also went a perfect 4-0.  The Cougars beat St. Edmund on opening night and also picked up wins against Southside, Acadiana, and Pineville.  St. Thomas More will get tested again in Week 2, as they open with Sulphur on Monday night, before heading up north to take on Captain Shreve, Eunice, and West Monroe in the Trey Altick tournament.

+ Teurlings Catholic moves up five spots to #6 after Week 1.  The Rebels ten-run ruled Acadiana on opening day, and then took down St. Louis Catholic, Notre Dame, and Doyle to finish the week with a 4-0 record.  They'll face Brother Martin this coming Tuesday, before meeting with Catholic-New Iberia for a three-game series starting on Thursday.
